Today, we got SNOW.

It was a stay at home day, which was nice because everyone always forgets how to drive the first day of snow, and Guppy wasn't feeling very good, but had a quiet day to recover. We had a crackling fire and I did some laundry and we made a Halloween wreatch from a craft kit. We watched Incredibles, and I snuck in an episode of the Flash while she was napping. I did a lot of artwork that I feel tremendously good about today, and wrote a hard email that I feel was appreciated and also programmed a fab new toy to play with at Portrait Adoption:

http://portraitadoption.com/novelgenerator.php

The idea occurred to me a few days ago, while I was noodling around with things, and it turned out to be relatively simple to write up. I would still like to make a button to share it on social media, and possibly also save your results, but I'm not quite sure how to make that happen. I have a few ideas I could poke at if it's something people decide they want.

THere's also a new sampler page up at EMG, for the Wild Teas of Alaska: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbook.php?id=75

Guppy was feeling enough better at the end of the day to walk up the driveway with me. She was all smiles and glee until I wanted to take her photo, of course.

Looking ahead! I have a few things on the calendar to share with you!

October 30 I will be at Sipping Streams from 1-4 for a fabulous coloring party! Tea, finger food (OMG, so good), a face-painter, free pages, and a chance to use my own high end coloring tools. Don't miss it!

Nov 5-6 I will be at the UWA holiday bazaar, sharing a table with [livejournal.com profile] laylalawlor. I will have painted ornaments and any coloring books that I personally am in.

Nov 11-12 I will be at PopCon at UAF. As time allows, I will be doing on-the-spot commissions of ornaments and sketches.

Nov 18-20 is Sketch Fest #81!

I'm also ruminating something fun and Sketch Fest related for Black Friday...
ellenmillion: (fairysquash)
Today was the first day of preschool, and although Guppy had to be pried off of me with a crowbar to stay by herself, she had a wonderful, wonderful time and came home bouncy and full of energy and cheerfulness. I lurked at the closing and got to watch her actually COME at the whistle and get in line. (This is a minor miracle, people. Last year she had a tendency to bolt in the opposite direction when the whistle was blown.)

I got up early this morning and scanned many things, including two new coloring pages, a portrait adoption, and 21 #smaugust sketches. They are all here: http://ellenmillion.com/smaugust.php

This one is my favorite - it is on hold for [livejournal.com profile] haunted_blood, who prompted it:

Patreons will get to pick one of these to sponsor into a finished ink piece for #inktober. (I am regretfully skipping #sketchtober, because sanity.) This month, they get a new coloring page. :)

I also updated my Etsy shop and renewed a number of my holiday designs.

I got just 226 words on my not-a-book, but this was on the tail of a very productive weekend - I've been getting up before 6 AM every day to get words in, and I've cracked 20k.

I still need to do an August wrapup... and maybe July??

Must wrap a small bundle of energy into bed now... and persuade her to stay there.
ellenmillion: (fairysquash)
Yesterday was another smashingly busy day in which I crossed many things off (many boring things, like take van to the shop, and fold laundry). Because we went in very early to drop the van off, we were in town before the library or usual kid things opened, and it was too wet to go to the park. So, instead, Guppy asked sweetly if we could go to Creamer's Field, and I thought that sounded like a great idea.

The mosquitos were fierce, and the boardwalk in places is quite tippy and slick, but we clung to each others hands and navigated the boreal loop with much laughter and excited observation. We saw ducks, and I introduced her to algae, and we climbed up to the observation tower (she was more interested in the stairs than the view) and we counted bridges and it was great fun. We had just restocked the hospital with coloring books, so I brought a copy of the Wildflowers of Alaska coloring book into the Creamer's giftshop to see if they'd be interested in carrying it. The woman at the desk was very enthusiastic, so I left a copy with my contact information. Fingers crossed!

Have some photos:

The rest of the day involved lots of busy work, cleaning, more Portrait Adoption certificate counting (I FOUND THE MISSING ONE! In the Ps instead of in the Cs where it belonged. There was no P anywhere in the name, it was totally a clerical error.) and lots of cooking and processing of the farm share. Mmmm... farm share.

(Also, I totally fooled both husband and Guppy into eating a beet, which they both hate, and it was the funniest thing I've seen in weeks. I laughed myself to tears.)

Today so far has involved cleaning - I had two drawers that were utterly uselessly stuffed with things, half of which I just tossed. And poking for more Alaskan coloring books to print, and getting current printing quotes because I'm getting low on two of my best sellers. And more laundry, because it Never Ends. Hopefully, naptime will involve some writing, but I should also finish counting PA certificates. There were enough little dependencies (and some major head-scratching with name changes) that it was a good thing I was doing it.
ellenmillion: (thud)
Today, so far, I have:

*Gotten my flat tire repaired (to be fair, I have to pick it up tomorrow, because I don't want to go back in today).
*Refilled propane
*Bought a replacement headlight for my car
*Replenished the ridiculously expensive prescription catfood
*mailed an order
*cleaned out the freezer
*3 loads of laundry
*some emails
*arranged to restock one of my retailers
*realized I was missing a set of certificates for a portrait adoption. *ARGH.*

The last precipitated a full certificate count and file purge. I am to the Hs so far, and there are several head-scratchers in my files. Some I suspect are people who have changed their names (marriage, etc.), a few are people who never registered at the site *tosses*, but there are a few oddballs I'll have to track down. Illegible signatures for the argh. I'm getting rid of reams of paperwork, which is nice, and tagging everything I identify so I don't have to do this again.

I did 4 sketches for #smaugust over the weekend: https://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=78

I got a massively flat tire on my way to gaming and discovered that I need a cheater bar in my car because I could not BUDGE those nuts.

Now I have to go empty the van because it gets serviced tomorrow and I have dance class tonight! *flies*
ellenmillion: (Number 1 Dog Ribbon)
So much to do, and ALL of it fun, inspiring, and amazing. I am in a tailspin of indecision of what to tackle first!

Among my things to do:

*Pick up coloring books (if I get the email telling me that they are done, as I'm expecting!)
*Reply to an amazing art offer (SO EXCITING)
*get a new dog run tether
*send payments
*Last #junicorn piece. (Though I do plan to go back and replace a few of the first few that weren't as good as the later ones got... I leveled up!!)
*Pick up copyedits on my not-a-book. They don't look too hard! Formatting stuff, mostly, and a handful of typos. Easy peasy! And formatting was far less painful the second time through.
*Work on sketch for another amazing art opportunity.
*Work on another sketch.
*Work on that OTHER sketch.
*Start thinking about a kickass 5 minute presentation strategy
*schedule next Sketchfest
*PDF Kickstarter fulfillment.

I've been kicking butt on #junicorn:

There's an ACEO of Bran Stark snuck in there, too, from Sketchfest this weekend.

Of these, the following are available: 28, 22, 5, 19, 7 and 8. $15 for a single, 2/$20, 3/$25, 4/$30. Several of the previous batches are still unclaimed, too.
ellenmillion: (fairysquash)
This weekend I:

*played far too much FTL
*watched several episodes of Game of Thrones
*Finished compiling and uploading 5 coloring books
*Patreon reward (a coloring page based on this painting)

Today I:
*finished 4 more coloring books. DONE and waiting for proofs now!
*Wrote ~1000 words on my story. Still need another scene in there, but I'm CLOSE, and broke 30k total.
*Did various email, admin, money, and advertising THINGS.
*Went grocery shopping
*mailed orders

To celebrate finishing the coloring books, I plan to play more FTL. Or fall asleep on the couch. We'll see what happens. :P
ellenmillion: (thud)
Yesterday I:
*Did 3 loads of laundry (washed, dried, folded - 1 of them got put away)
*Wrote a scene in my book (3 to go!)
*Got orders out
*Sent digital subscriptions
*Photodumped
*Weeded email (down to 250 today)
*cleaned the house
*organized my studio - one disaster cabinet in particular, and all the tables
*made Sketch Fest payments
*updated the webpage
*went grocery shopping
*got mail
*swapped out propane tanks
*dropped off my ipad for repair
*meals and dishes, oh my.

Today I:
*Put away the rest of the laundry
*had a playdate
*made a glass bead
*got another load of water
*mailed the hardcopy subscriptions
*finished insurance red tape
*cleaned the house again (because Guppy)
*weeded more email
*paid bills
*packed truck for show tomorrow
*Laid out two coloring book interiors

Tomorrow I:
*have a show from noon to 9! Come see me at the Bear Gallery at Alaskaland (I mean, Pioneer Park) - I will have coloring books and originals and may also be doing on-the-spot sketches!

If you would like to subscribe for a coloring book every month from July-December, I am opening this opportunity until the end of the month! I am unlikely to do a subscription service again, so this is your final chance to get a random awesome coloring book from my collection in your inbox or mailbox every month. It is $35 for digital, $85 for hardcopy (US shipping only).

The free coloring book sampler page this week is from APPLES AND ROSES, here: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbook.php?id=56
ellenmillion: (I will stick forks in you)
I have the first round of edits back on my book, all of the artwork is now in hand for the new coloring books (because my artists are ROCK STARS), more than 500 unread emails after a few days off of the grid, I have about 1000 photos to process (not exaggerating!), laundry to do, a house to clean, my studio is a disaster, I've got Sketch Fest payments to send, it's a new month so I need to get Patreon perks out and do my wrapup, and I've got FOUR hours of childfree time to get it all done in. WATCH ME GO.

First, a brief catch-up, and a photo dump.

We spent our birthday weekend camping in our van up north. We spent two nights at our favorite site, and discovered a new campground further north where we spent two more nights. Guppy stayed with her grandparents, and it was BLISS. I mean sure, we ran out of propane and had to borrow jumper cables at one point, but overall, the trip was AMAZING. We hiked, I read two books (Discount Armageddon and a re-read of Matchbox Girls), we ate amazing food, we sat around campfires and lounged in hammocks and listened to the water flowing, and basically recharged from the roots.

Today's list:

Stupid Red Tape (insurance verification)
Amazon fulfillment. That tower of boxes I sent a few months ago? Almost all gone! O.o
Painting with Guppy
Scan Dragon's Hoard
Layout Serenitrix
Take a walk
Stretch

Folks on Facebook (or elsewhere, I dunno!) are doing a meme called #artvsartist - the idea of which is to show that artists draw themselves. I could have skewed this the other way if I'd tried - I do make an effort to deliberately draw other face types sometimes. This one is almost cheating, because two of these are self-portraits.

In other news, it's COLD. It was in the high 70s last week and we got seriously spoiled. Last night was near freezing. My garden is weathering it, though, and I thrilled to report that my strawberries survived! My delphiniums are spreading, the violas reseeded, and a tarragon plant, of all things, came back from its roots. The violets are threatening to take over everything, and the chives have already given us a half-dozen omelets. My (not-wild) roses are covered in leafbuds, and my baby trees are putting out actual branches this year. A few of the lilacs are still alive - I need to go weed out some of the (wild) roses that want to take over the area.

I've taken up a bellydance not-class again, and it's very, very good for me - both to get out of the house sans child and see grown-ups, and to give these muscles some use. Bellydance uses different muscle groups than hugging and cleaning up messes and carrying Guppy-whose-legs-suddenly-won't-work.
ellenmillion: (Number 1 Dog Ribbon)
I'm going to be a bit shameless here, but the last few days, I have hit it out of the park, and I am pleased with myself. Bear with me. Or skip this. I'd understand.

Let me demonstrate with my list from Friday:

140 words for 78 Tarot description.
Release 78tarot art as promised last week. (Oops! I honestly thought I had!)
Z. cameo drawing.
Coloristas - post choices
Coloristas - PM files (uploading now)
Fold laundry + one more washed, dried and folded.
Lunch
Ship SF originals
April subscriptions (hardcopy and PDF)
Orders
Thank you note to MA x2
SF payouts
Finish Tentacle Friends
500 words on novella 6000+ words. Booyeah.

Because I am THAT awesome.

I also scanned Tentacle Friends, and Maiden, Mother, Crone, and took a nearly 2 mile hike with the daughter through the snow, and packed up some orders, and did some administrative stuff, and worked on my Kickstarter. (A huge shout-out to the husband, because there were No. Naps.) I am particularly pleased with the wordcount - 6000! That's... not quite a weekend record for me, probably my next best. My novella is to 19500, and I'm loving it.

(And to be fair, it did take 2 days instead of one to cross everything off, but I'm still chuffed.)

I had to share. Back to your regularly scheduled programming now. Carry on!

This was the final stretch in progress...
ellenmillion: (happy bubble fairy)
We survived swim class, and shopping, and the post office! There is a possible nap happening... There is no nap. The nap is a lie. *despairs*

This day needs a list:

Have a banner that is now my cover page at Facebook:

(Let me know if this is too wide for your browsing screen...)
ellenmillion: (fairysquash)
I love projects. *hearts* I won't say much more until later, but let's just say I'm cautiously excited about this one... (and the other one, and also that third one that I'm not talking about yet...)

I will need to do a month in review today, but here is the quick update while I let Guppy watch Max and Ruby and get ready to clean the house.

Yesterday, we did All the Running Around - prescription cat food, coloring book consignment restock, shopping, post office. Today, I set the alarm for PM instead of AM, so we overslept by an hour (which was delicious), but everyone still made it where we needed to be. Velcro went to the vet to have a cyst looked at, Jake got to work with breakfast hastily tucked into his lunch box, and I haven't vacuumed yet.

Today, I plan to:

*clean the house
*feed us
*Preschool orientation
*emails
*orders
*walk
*redo ad for CO

Have the most ridiculous Guppy photo to date:

ellenmillion: (Number 1 Dog Ribbon)
I kept thinking I wasn't getting anything done yesterday, but looking back indicates it was not a waste.

I got the truck permanently registered. (An hour at DMV, I think, but Guppy was good.)
I dropped off the new coloring book to two of my consignment locations
I sketched #4 for the WoA project.
I helped do load-in for the preschool we'll be attending this fall
I replaced the run for my MONSTER dog who broke it again
I mailed 157 coloring books
I made a pork pot pie from scratch
I had Layla over for lunch (crepes!) and watched The Secret Life of Arietty (I have mixed feelings about this movie - it was super pretty, and I LOVE the aesthetic of the borrowers, but I feel like the story was way too sad and unresolved.)

Have a photo. I'll catch up on Friday some other time... hopefully still on Friday...

ellenmillion: (dotaddict)
My day is flying away, and I'm not even out of my bathrobe yet! Time for a list:

*Email list update/Start email giveaway (Weeklong?)
*Sketch Fest prizes
*Truck registration (tomorrow?)
*500 words (I haven't written since last week...)
*Update Etsy with Christmas pack
*Amazon boxes (3)
*Orders
*Sketch Fest payments (Paypal is being a booger...)
*Tax stuff
*Ink! Ink like the wind!
*Order labels
*Lay out EMG ad for CO
*Update Torn World (Nothing to post, but reviewed everything to be reviewed!)
*Catbox/vacuum/dishes/keep child alive
*Walk child and dog
*Remember to eat.

Have a photo. It looks like she's blowing a kiss, but really she's telling me to stop taking a photo of her. Yes, that is a Frozen tutu dress.

ellenmillion: (fairysquash)
Operation Mom was a success, and she is now in town and set up in her adorable rental house for the next few weeks.

And in other awesome news, my coloring books have been accepted for sale at Gulliver's! I submitted them about 6 weeks ago, and had all but given up hope that they'd been selected. I think I squeaked out loud when I got the email. They will be starting with three titles: Fantastrix, Midnight Gardens, and Fishpond Fantasies. I am so excited.

They are also currently available at the Comic Shop, Alaskana Raven, and Woven Sylver (the latter two are in the Co-op Plaza downtown).

I also got MORE fabulous news yesterday, but that reveal will have to wait until later...

New portrait at Portrait Adoption:

(It has been claimed.)

I have updated Etsy significantly! http://www.etsy.com/shop/ellenmillion
I have updated my own site significantly! http://ellenmillion.com

I do have the two new coloring books in stock:

Both are now available for ordering at: http://ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbooks.php

And one quick headsup - prices are going up! I am raising the standard price at my site to $10 each. I have also just LOWERED the base priority shipping charge by .50 - so this is a prime time to order if you'd to get all your coloring books .50 cheaper than they are going to be AND save that .50 shipping.

AND, AND! A small selection of my coloring books are available as fulfilled by Amazon. IE: available with free shipping through Prime. I am testing out this service in small quantities, and we'll see how it goes... I know that I'm twice or three times as likely to order something that is eligible for the free shipping as I am anything else.

*deliver coloring books (2 or 3 locations)
*invoice
*Send SF payments
*update for PA
*email to EMG list
*laundry (one load folded, another in the dryer now)
*register for SFA
*500 words on DB - 145
*sea monster sponsorship packages
*pick up check
*bank
*po
*update shipping
*childcare ferrying
*Other stuff I'll update later as I think of it...
ellenmillion: (Mmm..)
It's raining! Horray!! As predicted, it hasn't knocked the smoke down much, so instead of 'living in ashtray,' we are now 'swimming in ashtray,' but it's an improvement, and I'll take it.

Guppy got a box with costumes in it - both Elsa, and Anna, AND Sofia the First, and also a tea set and sparkly pom poms, and was utterly thrilled:

I am likely to fritter away my free time this morning unless I list, so here goes:

*Paperwork for UWA
*Amazon update
*3 orders
*Post office
*water
*pre-orders for coloring books
*set up sketch fest (ACK!)
*email update to warn about sketch fest
*pick date for July Sketch Fest now
*try to get rid of piano and chair
*500 words on DB
*Other stuff to be edited in as I figure out what it is...

Thursdaily

ellenmillion: (fairysquash)
The daughter is dressing herself up in my packing supplies. (Under close supervision...)

The smoke is awful this morning. Lungs are starting to hurt, just a little. I don't think it's as bad as 2004 was, though. The sun is this crazy orange disc. "Look!" Guppy told me the other morning. "It's the MOON!"

We've been doing most of our playing indoors, and I'm glad that the swimming pool air is at least a little conditioned. Still, a day isn't a day without going outside a little bit!

Stuff I'd like to do today:

*Swimming
*two orders
*Post office
*Financial stuff
*Print, laminate, cut out bookmarks
*Put up preorders for both new coloring books
*Send out note to EMG email list reminding about Sketch Fest tomorrow
*Layout sea monster greeting card

But, I don't have childcare today, so I'm expecting to get this done:

*swimming

I'm being scaled right now by someone small and very wiggly, so I'm going to accept that my blogging time is gone and go play house.

(New couch means AWESOME new box. I have cut a door and windows and even made a cool peaked roof. Photos, eventually...)
ellenmillion: (guppy stare)
Still smoky, but not as horrible as it could be. The air purifiers keep the indoors relatively nice.

I got From the Deep edits made and uploaded for the printer, finalized the PDF, and emailed them to all those supporters. A giant thank you to everyone who helped make this happen! I also scoured the Tarot of the Water proof and approved it to print, so those will be done and off my desk very soon. The PDF was made and sent to Kayti!

No slacking allowed today - I've got childcare for 3 hours, and need to make GOOD use of it.

To do:

*Four packages, one of which involves a lot of labeling.
*Send PA payment
*Renew car registration
*Find home for piano and chair
*Shopping
*load of water

*move and scoop catbox
*vacuum
*sweep upstairs
*dishes

*cut watermelon
*1000 words on DB 1189
*Update PA
*Update TW?
*Call vet re:food - not in yet... luckily not out yet!
*laundry - ready to fold!
*update insurance autopay
*Order new laptop battery
*Pick up second proof of From the Deep! Print run approved!
*Marinate meat for dinner

I may need a new laptop battery. It's ridiculous that I'm getting about 30 minutes of battery life. It's always been a little disappointing, but that's just absurd.
