I was fairly lax with my August goals, because I've been face-down in burnout and barely smart enough to recognize that I needed a little time off. I also traveled for a week to see my folks (GREAT visit), and school started for Guppy.

And I did okay with those goals! Girl Nest Door only didn't come out this month because of technical difficulties out of my control, and anyway, it's scheduled for this weekend so I'm counting it as a checkmark for August.

X Release Girl Nest Door - queued for Sept 2 release
X Release Shifting Sands Box Set 2
X 1 Torn World short story
X 1 shifter coloring page (finished and scanned, but not yet released)
o Finish NDA art stuff (caribou and 2 translation pages) - caribou is about 3/4 done
o 15000 words on Dandelion Spring - 12k
o 1 print volume of something
X Get Scarlet and the Christmas Kittens in for revisions
X Get #junicorn out

I'm wibbling about the print volume. I'm thinking maybe Rails, but it would be pretty much for vanity only - I wouldn't expect to make a lot on them. Maybe that's a good enough reason? I don't think I'll do anything fancy or include illustrations.

Goals for September to follow. It will include finishing Dandelion Spring. And the NDA art stuff. And some legwork for the 25th anniversary of EMG in October. Look for more on that topic soon!
ellenmillion: (Default)
I've missed doing these - the last one I did was for October. I'll go in and fill in the gaps if I have a chance, but I like doing them when they're fresh in my memory. They are especially nice to do when I'm feeling like I'm spinning my wheels or not getting much done. Because it usually turns out that, yeah, I have gotten a few things accomplished!

Artwork

I started a sketch for a hunky shifters coloring page during Sketch Fest

I released five new pages that were included in Splendrix and the color cover, The Gathering. The Kickstarter, paired with Mitzi's Gardens and Goddesses Volume 3, was very exciting, and we closed it up at 3x the goal, with lots of great stretch goals.

Unicorn and fairies in forest

A gazelle shapeshifter in the jungle

See the rest here: http://ellenmillion.com/

I also got a lot of progress made on some other coloring pages, and finished inking Chase. (Not inked or scanned yet.)

Writing

I released Tropical Panther's Penance on the 15th.

I wrote 16,300 words, mostly on Tropical Christmas Stag.

Other Things

Frozen septic field. Yay.

Six year old growing pains.

Ridiculously late snow.

A roundup of monthly accomplishments!

Artwork

5 pieces for Sketch Fest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&page=2&date=92

I won #inktober!

Several big, complicated pieces, and a few easier or rougher ones. The last one was really phoned in, but I was so not going to give up when I was that close.

I officially released only a few of these - more would be released in November with the coloring book, and some of them are still on hold pending publication.

Writing

I finished a book! This was the fastest (to date) that I'd completed a book, wrapping up in 6 weeks. I wrote 11k of those words in October.

Other

So. Many. Playdates.
There were many small personal upheavals and minor dumpster fires.
And no snow to speak of, which is very weird for us.
ellenmillion: (Default)
Artwork

Seven pieces for Sketch Fest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=91
These were deliberately pencil sketches that I had plans to finish as part of #inktober the following month. (And one already finished in ink, a piece for a Patreon patron.)

Basically, nothing else finished...

Writing

Almost 15k written on the Not-a-Book, which is just making my 500/day goal.

Other

At least two Kindergarten colds. Thanks, germs.

I reduced my blogging to to-do lists, which helped me focus considerably.

Artwork

3 ACEOs for Sketch Fest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=90

It was skycat month at Torn World, and I did four ACEOs (plus a sketch) for the Muse Fusion:

Plus http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=562
http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=565
AND http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=563

And a new portrait: http://portraitadoption.com/portrait.php?id=2999

Writing

I edited my forth Not-a-Book, having finished it the month before. I also released it this month, which meant a certain amount of promotional and administrative work.

I also edited a short story for an anthology, which involved adding quite a lot of words.

I started a short story during the Muse Fusion, to the tune of 1200 words, but it isn't finished yet.

Other

August... was hard. Really hard. I started the month entirely crippled from overdoing it, which comes with a pile of baggage. Kindergarten was an exciting new addition to the schedule. And I was laid low when I lost my beloved dog just a few days after that. It wasn't a surprise - his health had been failing for some time, but that didn't make it less of a blow.

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos!

Artwork:

I released the remaining four pieces I did exclusively for Color On! Magazine:

I'm super happy with these.

I also released the tattoo I did for my nephew:

I was at the Tarot Expo for Sketch Fest weekend, and I used the combination to jump start my long-dormant Sketch Tarot project. I did five pieces for Sketch Fest, all tarot-themed, and 4 of them will become cards in my deck. (One is even inked and finished!) http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=89

Writing:

I finished the not-a-book! I wrote about 13k, which wasn't quite my 15k goal. But, BOOK! I also laid out the cover and wrote the blurb.

Other:

We finished the woodshed! (It may have been a little much for me.)

Guppy and I got new beds!

I did a watercolor class at the Hot Springs. http://hotlink.ellenmilliongraphics.com/ellen/photos/ellencamping.jpg
(Only Patreon patrons get to see the paintings I did!)

June was #junicorn. SO MUCH #JUNICORN. Here's the landing page, showing all 30 unicorn pieces that I did. http://ellenmillion.dreamwidth.org/1604777.html

I did 6 of the #junicorn ACEOs for the June Sketch Fest. https://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=88

I also did some Portrait Adoptions: https://portraitadoption.com/portrait.php?id=2941 and https://portraitadoption.com/portrait.php?id=2947 and http://portraitadoption.com/portrait.php?id=2949

I released this piece at Torn World:

(This was the first five exclusive pieces I did for the July issue of Color On! Magazine.)

And this also went up at Torn World: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=543

Writing

I wrote just shy of 15k words on my next not-a-book. *panting*

Summer camp was AWESOME.

Two movies in the theatre: Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Wonder Woman, both wonderful.

Artwork

I only did two sketches for the May Sketch Fest, but both of them spanned into full coloring pages that I released at Torn World for Sea Monster Month. Arguing Over Dinner also became my Patreon perk:

I also did this one: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=554

At Muse Fusion, I did this painting:

I also did two sketches that didn't go anywhere, and two sketches I finished into coloring pages! http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=553 and http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=552

And, miraculously, finished this painting that I started last year:

I also did this for a client:

In total, 4 complex coloring pages from sketch to finish, another inked piece, a teeny painting, and I finished a giant painting. Go, me!

Writing

A poem up at Torn World for subscribers from our previous Muse Fusion, "Tokens, Time, and Fire": http://www.tornworld.net/storypageview.php?id=614

I set a goal of 500 words/day, which I didn't quite meet, but I did get a little over 10,000 words written, which is a LOT for me!

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos!

April started late - I spent the first several weeks doing a whirlwind grandparent tour of three different states. I attempted #faepril, but burned out after 7 or eight of them, and wasn't particularly happy with any of them. I was also working ridiculous hard on exclusive work that I won't be able to show off until July (except to Patreon patrons!), so it was a brief month from the outside...

Artwork:

My big release was this painting, for 78Tarot:

I also did three rough sketches for Sketch Fest #86: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=86
All of them were for my failed #faepril attempt, none of them were very polished!

Other:

Livejournal's insistence on adding advertising for visitors (despite my paid account!) was the final nail in that coffin, and I imported my journal to Dreamwidth, which is where my primary blogging now is.

I had a cold for a few weeks of the month. When I went to the doctor, they said 'walking pnemonia?' I said PLBT! and refused to get xrays, and was better then next week.

Artwork

At Portrait Adoption:

At Sketch Fest, I did 6 (!) pieces, 3 coloring page sketches, 2 little paintings (for Torn World, below), and a toned paper portrait sketch (finished as a portrait, above).

For Torn World:

(several more were posted at the site, but they're part of April's update because that's when I released them in my blog.)

I did sketches at the Morris Thompson complex, including this one:

(Patreon patrons got more sketches.)

Writing

STILL NONE. (Okay, I did a little outlining.)

Other

A bear photo of Guppy on her birthday:

I re-coded Torn World to use the database of the rest of EMG. It was a MASSIVE upgrade, and I also added Muse Fusion functionality at the site itself.

I also worked on several projects that wouldn't be released until much later!

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos! - More catch-up! February looked unremarkable, too, because I was working on a MAJOR secret project. Patreon patrons got a lot of sneak previews of the project, but publicly, I was pretty quiet.

We did landscaping at our house, completely transforming the downhill side of our house in particular. It may actually qualify as a yard now, not just a tangled wilderness of junk we don't know where else to put and scruffy willows.

Everyone in the house was sick at one point during the month, some of us worse than others.

Finished the artwork for and released Wild Teas of Alaska! http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbook.php?id=75

Flooded the basement being dumb and ended up dismantling, drying, and reorganzing my entire studio.

Got new furniture for Guppy and completely rearranged her room into something MUCH better. Which was my favorite Guppy photo of the month:

I officially threw in my hat for #junicorn, a challenge to do 30 unicorn sketches in 30 days, and turned out 1 sketch and 29 ACEO cards, in color!

This is the first few, the rest are here: http://ellenmillion.com/galleryview.php

I did five pieces for Sketch Fest, most of them also for #junicorn: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=76

I also updated my page with the pages from Wildflowers of Alaska, including the not-posted-yet Lupine and Columbine.

Writing

I added another several thousand words to my not-a-book #2, and got it off for edits again.

Other

I got seven new coloring books printed (and two re-printed) and fulfilled ALL of my Kickstarter rewards (except the custom piece, due in November). DUDE.

Updated my webpage pretty extensively, both my personal one, and EMG, which gained galleries of colored example pieces!

I was brave and bold about my own career opportunities, and it's paid off in scary spades.

Patreon perk was a coloring page, Summer Bubbles.

I for real released Tentacle Friends, which had been seen in several places already and shown off on the cover of Serenitrix: http://ellenmillion.com/artpageview.php?id=304

I officially released several of the sea monster pieces that had been included in From the Deep, including Master of the Deep, Deathfin Bookmark, and Dreamskate with Sunken Ship.

I did this artist's challenge, #artvsartist

Writing

Most of this month, my not-a-book was out for edits, and I didn't do much that was new. Alas! Most of my writing was for Kickstarter updates and promotional things.

Other

I did wrap up a big Kickstarter this month, and start the process of laying out and proofing seven new coloring books!

We also went on a long camping trip for our birthday weekend, and Guppy and Mom and I went on a train trip to Denali and between those two, I took about a thousand photos.

It feels like a slim month on content.
