Las Vegas?

I'm going to Las Vegas, baby! In March of next year!

Any don't-miss recommendations? I totally want to see a Circ de Sole (I butchered that, didn't I?) show, and I plan to take seven baths a day, learn to play poker, and sunbathe a lot. What else do you do in Vegas? (If you aren't interested in/available for a shotgun wedding and have a limited gambling budget, that is...)

Cirque de Soleil (with some accent marks thrown in there somewhere--hell if I know where, I don't speak French), you lucky sod. ;)

I think what you've listed pretty much covers what one does in Vegas. See some cabaret shows, maybe?

I LOVE CdS....I haven't seen their Vegas shows but I've heard that they are exceptional, especially O (the water-based one).

Congrats!

We only took $100 each to gamble with for four days. Cash out while you are ahead and start over with your original 'bet money' is my best advice. We came home $800 ahead. :)

Here's a link to some of the FREE stuff to do in Vegas

And here is a link to the place we went for a sunset horseback ride through the desert. Dinner and transportation to and from the hotel were included in the price. The awesome part of the sunset tour is that you are still in the middle of the desert after dark--the night sky is AMAZING out there!

(Warning, if you are a germaphobe like my former BIL, then take hand sanitizer. It's a ranch in the middle of an Indian reservation so there is no running water.)

If you've never read it (odds are you haven't), find a book called "Last Call" by Tim Powers, and read it before going. :)

Powers is one of my top favorite fantasy authors. His speciality is "real world meets weird magic" -- he made a name for himself with meticulously-researched historical fantasies that blended real-world events with "hidden history" magical subplots.

"Last Call" was the first of his "contemporary" books, blending evocative portrayals of real places (Los Angeles is a fav of his, as that's where he lives; but in Last Call, the star is Vegas), recent history, and a modern plot about "ordinary" people running into bizarre, powerful magic that most people don't know exists and really runs the world. "Last Call" blends poker, casinos, the Tarot, Bugsy Siegel, and the Fisher King. (Of course, it's actually "contemporary" to when it was written, which is the early 90s, I think.)

I tell you -- I never had any interest whatsoever in visiting Las Vegas, before I read that book. But he made it come alive to me in ways I never expected. My only regret is that if I went to Vegas now (I've still never been), it wouldn't still have any of the remnants of the old Golden Age casinos. But I think that based on the sense of the city that book gave me, it would still enhance my experience of wandering around the place. And it would definitely make me go out to see Hoover Dam! :)

Do you know what hotel you are staying at? Oh! And make sure you take COMFORTABLE shoes. You walk a million miles just to get from your hotel room to the curb in Vegas.

My favorite thing to do in Vegas was always the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton. :) It's so awesome!! But only good if you're a fan, of course. I also liked to play around in the Midway games at Circus Circus. I don't gamble, so I always came up there to look at the sights. The show for Treasure used to be really awesome too, but I don't know if it has changed over the years. Same with the exploding volcano on the strip, and little Italy.

Definitely see Cirque du Soleil. They have several shows in Las Vegas right now. My husband and I can personally recommend "Mystere", and we have it on good authority that "Ka" is great, too. We also would like to see "O", which is supposed to be absolutely amazing.

I think just about every hotel in Vegas has a "must see". I've long wanted to sample the Tournament of Kings at the Excalibur, and I've heard Circus Circus is supposed to be a lot of fun, too.

I live about 2.5 hours up the highway from Vegas, and there are only 2 populated areas between us and it, neither is which is very large. :)

My reccommend for a show would be Spamalot at the Wynn.

Also, for a taste of cheesy old Vegas, the Fremont Street Experience. http://www.vegasexperience.com/

If you have an extra day, drive up the 15 to Zion National Park.
In March, the desert is usually at a comfortable temperature so things like Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire state park are fun to see too without having to endure 120 degree heat.

The buffet at the Rio is very very good.

How long are you going to be there?

We just went to Vegas, quick list.

1) The Excalibur was a great place to stay. They didnt have tubs, but the room is comfy and nice.

2)Cirque du Soleils are <3. We saw: Mystere, Ka, Zumanity, and couldnt get tickets for O or Love. Mystere is an old favorite, I didnt really care for Ka, and Zumanity was *faboo*. It is very adult, so dont go if you dont like to see naked ladies ^^. Ive always heard O was the best, so if youre gonna see just one, do it! =p

3) Food: Our favorite dinner/lunch was at the Luxor buffet. All you can eat super tasty prime rib at dinner. Beware all the Sunday brunches- they are really expensive and really arent that special.

4) What to do? We brought books. We napped. We saw the casinos and went shopping at the outlet mall. Dont forget to ride the Duece! Its a double decker bus, $5 a person all day tickets. Very worth it!

... thats all I can think of really. We didnt gamble much, other than some 'penny' slot with faeries on them at the Excalibur - tho we made about $20 a day off them =3

I was just in Vegas - for my sister's Elvis wedding - but didn't get to do much. Just looking was exciting! I have an uncle who lives there, he is an artist as well.

If you have a vehicle, take a side trip to the Hoover Dam. Very cool and scifi-looking!
