Warm is ugly

No, really. Ugly.

A freak chinook has hit, and it has warmed up to an utterly ridiculous 43 degrees above zero. This, the astute among you will note, is above freezing.

It would take several weeks of this to get rid of our snow, of course, but all of it has fallen off of the trees and sloped roofs. The groundcover snow has collapsed in on itself, shrinking and darkening up as it gets more concentrated in pollutants and birch seeds. The trees are bare twigs. The softness of the snow has vanished. There is a glass-like glaze over it and everything is much, much darker without the blanket of bright snow to reflect every light.

It would be like spring, but spring comes with... hope. Green things will be out soon. There is an end in sight. The days are getting longer.

This? This is January. There is no such hope. We've got four or five more months of cold and dark, still.

But now, instead of Christmas card compositions, we get nasty, leafless trees and compacted, dirty snow and it's still dark more than it's light.

Warm is ugly.

Whining about mother nature aside, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!!!

It doesn't come on for another 5 hours here because it's tape-delayed, so if any of you people on my friendslist spoil it without an LJ-cut I will rip your eyes out and eat them for breakfast.

Ah, I mean... I love you and would hate to have to kill you.

Yeah, Google is saying it's 54 up there, and it's only 30 here... and a friend in TN was complaining because it was only 12 down there! Everything is topsy turvy. Madness. Madness, I tell you! :)

It's 6 degrees outside tonight. I've never been so cold in my life (hey! I was raised in Los Angeles!)

Boggles my mind that it's colder where I am, right this second, than in, you know... Alaska.

Weird.

Pardon - the contact page on EMG isn't working, and I'm not sure what venue would be most appropriate to chat about this, but... I have something which needs some design work, and I would like to take advantage of your services; basically it's some text that would work nicely on mini-posters, mousepads, mugs, and whatever else you can fit it on. One of my missions in life is to spread this as far and wide as I can, and I'm not above using kitsch to do that. :)

EEK! I made some changes to the site header a few days ago and didn't notice that it had messed up the contact page. It's all fixed now! Will you test it to make sure it's working at your end?

Looks like it's working now (the 404 page needs to have the "index.html" trimmed off its "home" link, though). I note that the "replay" of the text I sent is unformatted, but maybe that's just the usual HTML quirk (I didn't check the page source, but I should have; carriage returns are interpreted as spaces when displayed in the browser, allowing for nicer formatting of HTML code).

Sorry the warmth is ruining your life. :P

I was just telling Greg how it was so much colder here than it was in Alaska and how that "just wasn't right". lol
