I made something work that shouldn't have worked, and I'm leery of 'too good to be true.' Can I beg someone to help me test out the new shopping cart setup at EMG?

Just go to the storefront, and browse to any design. Preferably one with more than one word in the title, 'cause that's what's supposed to not work. The url will look like this: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/fantasyart/emgproduct.php?id=578maybemorejunkhere - go sneak a 2 in that address so it looks like http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/fantasyart/emgproduct2.php?id=578maybemorejunkhere. (But whatever ID you pick. Doesn't have to be that one.) You will know you're at the new cart 'cause the buy-em links will say 'add to cart, yo!'

Does it work?? Do you go to a shopping cart? Can you click continue shopping and get back to that same page?

It shouldn't, cause there are spaces in the URL, but it's worked flawlessly for me so far.

Edit: Well, it sure SEEMS to work. I've put in publicly on-line, green light - go! I am now debating a nap.

I'm not sure what you are wanting us to try.

I have gone to the storefront. I've tried looking at a variety of the items, like 'Power of the Storm'. The link from the main page to the items only as the id, no text in the url. On the 'Power of the Storm' page, I see only 'start a cart' buttons, which don't show me any url when I hover over them, nor can I see the url when I view the html source. If I click on the 'start a cart' button, I get taken to a page that asks if I want to pay via credit card or paypal. That page also only has the id, not any text with it.

Why are you expecting spaces to not work in urls? In general they will, as webservers like to encode them as %20. Or are you expecting your database backend to not like them?

I didn't want to replace the working browsing pages for the average visitor - you have to change the URL in your browser to emgproduct2.php(then the id stuff...) to get to the new cart. You shouldn't need to select a payment method.

The Mals E-commerce site that I'm using warns against using spaces in URLS, that's why I expected it not to work. I was expecting their database not to like them.

It works for me. I get back to the same 'yo' page. :)

Ok, go me, couldn't figure that out at all from what you first wrote (but that could easily be me and the codiene cough syrup I'm taking).

Looking at 'Power of the Storm' I could happily click through and get to the shopping cart with 'Power of the Storm' in the cart. The product fed into aitsafe.com is 'Power%20of%20the%20Storm' which has the spaces correctly encoded (alternatively it could be encoded as Power+of+the+Storm' which is how the example product description on the Mal's setup faq). I think you're ok.

One thing: if you haven't already done so, you might want to put a warning in the new site that the cart is hosted someplace else as I was surprised to see aitsafe.com wanting to set a cookie, then landing on their site for the cart.

I tried it on this, have been clicking back and forth a bit, it seems to work fine.

Using Firefox 1.0.7 on WinXP, if you need that :)
