In June:

I wrote about 6k on All Manner of Hats, 1000 words on Wolf's Instinct edits, 5k on The Dragon Prince's Secret, 2k on Green Valley Christmoose Diasaster, and 1k on the flamingo book I'm not writing. 15k is actually a lot more than I expected to get, or thought I had written. They're all over the place, but they are words!

I did finish an edit pass of Wolf's Instinct and All Manner of Hats and they are out to editors.

I published Her Finister and Breakup.

Smut Report reviewed Prompted 2.

I had a BookBub featured deal for The Royal Dragons of Alaska box set 1 and hit 157 in the Amazon store!

I drew 30 tiny unicorn artcards for Junicorn.

Goals for July:

Publish The Neighbors Might Talk, All Manner of Hats, Hare Today (in Furever Tails). 20k on Firebird of Glass. Fulfilment of Junicorn orders. Serial of Abruptly a Bear at Patreon and Vella.
ellenmillion: I get stuff done (i get stuff done)
February in review:

February pretends to be a month, even though it’s short, and I did pretty well, considering. I wrote about 19k on The Dragon Prince’s Bride (finishing it!), then revised it and sent it off for first readers. I revised Fire Control to the tune of about 3k new words (also finished!), wrote eight pieces of flash fiction for Prompted 2 (4500 words in total, it is also done!), and instead of doing the next project that I probably ought to be working on, I dove directly into the next Suddenly Shifters novella, Abruptly a Bear and wrote 3750 on it, for a total word count of just over 30k.

March goals:

I want to continue my slow-and-steady rate of 1000 words/day, because it does (eventually) get the work done. After I’ve finished Abruptly a Bear, I plan to revise and expand a few novellas (Throw Me a Bone and All Manner of Hats in particular), revise The Dragon Prince’s Bride, and maybe start in on Firebird of Glass (this is going to be a helluva book). I also have a few releases penciled into my calendar: specifically Prompted 2 and Better Half... if I ever get my laptop back (day 8). I expect that The Dragon Prince’s Bride will release in late April (I’m braced for big edits).

I am pulling Shape Shifters down in order to put some of the individual stories up in Kindle Unlimited. I love this collection madly, but Amazon refuses to admit that someone may actually search for it and want to find it, and only some of the stories can be offered in KU. So I’ll be doing a polish run and re-release of several of the individual stories, in a new series of shorts and novellas I’m tentatively calling Birch Bits. After I’ve got enough out, I’ll collect them thematically.

I also plan to go for walks, woo the birbs (they will eat from my hand and stand on my head now), belly dance, do the Sketch Fest Blowout, set up Shifting Sands tees, and of course, homeschool. Many things are laptop dependent.
ellenmillion: Speak softly and carry a big damn wrench (wrench)
30k words written, most of it on The Dragon Prince's Bride. (It. Will. Not. End.)

Published "Something in the Water" in New Year, New Boo: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P3X7BW8/

Wrote and published "Safe," a bonus story for Fae Shifter Knights. Redesigned the covers for the series.

Wrote a Shifting Sands short story (no eta on when this one will be available...).

Daughter is back in (home) school so teacher-mom is back on duty.

Made a lot of very hard decisions and went for some loooong, cooooold walks.

February goals:

Finish The Dragon Prince's Bride (52k now and no end in sight...). I'd like to finish it this week and get it into revisions, but I am trying to be reasonable with myself. (I am, however, not good at being reasonable with myself.)

Finish Fire Control revisions.

Get laptop repaired.

Coordinate Sketch Fest final blowout for March. I've ordered some fun prizes, including sets of my favorite pens and million dollar chocolate bars, because why even have this name if I'm not going to have fun with it?

Shifting Sands: Figure out how to launch an audiobook. Start moving on the t-shirts/postcards.
ellenmillion: (Default)
October...was a month. I got a week in and hit an absolute wall. I mean, I kind of smelled the burning gears in September, and it was wise of me to re-kajigger my schedule to drop an entire book at that time, but it was pretty much too little too late by that point, and after weepingly editing six chapters of Gryphon of Glass, I realized that maybe I needed a break.

And it was a glorious break.

I played piano and went for walks and took a few hundred photos. I drew some pictures (not a dedicated monthly challenge, just whatever I wanted), and read part of a book for fun, and refused to feel guilty. I was still teacher-mom and cleaner of houses and fixer of things and maker of fires and cooker of food, but it wasn't interspersed with any of my usual self-slave-driving. I did do too much doomsurfing occasionally, but even that I was able to throttle back on.

Towards the end of the month, I got a copyedit done for someone else, wrote five pieces of flash fiction, and started to feel that familiar chomping at the bit to get back to real work.

So...not a lot of progress to report. (I haven't looked at Gryphon of Glass again, so I have no idea if the edits I made at the beginning of the month were even worth anything.)

For November, I have a story due at the end of the month, and I will make that my only priority. It's a 10k minimum, but I suspect it will be a little longer...maybe 15k? I've got about 2k already and I'm aiming at 1-2k a day until it's done, which should leave plenty of time for edits.

Then I will pick up Gryphon again and hammer out the edits. After that, I am either going to go immediately on to Firebird of Glass (if inspired) or switch to The Dragon Prince's Bride, which I am dying to write again. (And I apologize in advance to my characters. #sorrynotsorry)

I have no art goals, no marketing goals, no other writing expectations. If I don't even get to Gryphon of Glass this month, so be it.

What are your plans for the month? Anyone doing NaNoWriMo?
ellenmillion: (Default)
July was a mixed bag, as most of them are.

I wrote just a little over 25,000 words, spread out over seven short stories (mostly Shifting Sands and one for Green Valley) and four novels. Most of that was on Gryphon of Glass, but I also finished adding scenes to The Dragon Prince's Librarian, started The Dragon Prince's Bride, and Shifting Sands Academy (possibly to be The Bear in the Library...and then the Dragon in the Science Lab and the Gryphon in the Gym, etc).

It wasn't my 30k goal, but it was a lot of words, and a lot of things FINISHED. I finished my personal round of revisions on DPL. I also revised the entire Tropical Tails collection, and the Christmas collection for Shifting Sands. I also did edits on a short lesfic for an anthology and outlined another.

I also got all of the #Junicorn artwork orders filled and paid the Food Bank $621, which delights me.

I started working on #magicalpets art cards mid-month, and have completed five (I expect the two on my desk will be finished today, bringing my total to 7)! I'm not making this a specific challenge like #junicorn - if I do 30, that's awesome, but I probably won't. I'll close off commissions at the end of the month, or sooner if I get swamped. You are welcome to send me photos of a pet you'd like to see with wings or magical trappings, no obligation to buy the finished product, but you get first dibs. Requests and prompts welcome.

This is, obviously, one of my August goals, to do more Magical Pets.

Also: 20k in various words. I have the first two readers' notes for DPL, and I suspect a chunk of this will be two or three new scenes in this book. The rest will be in Gryphon of Glass, which I hope to finish/revise in September and release in October. If I have spare energy or need a break, I want to finish the first chapter of The Dragon Prince's Bride, and write a short Royal Dragons prequel story as a reader magnet.

And...that's it? I may release a book this month, or they may go out in September. It depends on how smoothly edits on DPL and Tropical Tails go, and what the rest of the Zoe schedule is, and what airplanes fall out of the sky on the house...oh, and how the start of school goes, too.

We're signed up for distance learning, and I have no real idea what that's going to look like, like 90% of the parenting world right now. I am doing my best to be zen about this!

I guess that's it! Do you have big plans for August? Any accomplishments from July you'd like to share?
ellenmillion: (Default)
May was stuffed, but that's not unusual. Let's review!

Writing

It's worth a note that I'm deliberately listing writing first now. At some point in the last two years, I have made a conscious shift in my creative energy from visual art to words. This is in no small part because it is far more fiscally rewarding, but also because it's a lot more inspiring right now. I am absolutely loving the worlds I'm writing in.

Bearly Together: 4300 (I hope to add to this today)
Tropical Dragon's Destiny: 14000
Balance: 7300 (plus editing and submitting)
Magnolia and Chef's Christmas story that needs a title: 5500
Total: 31,100 - which JUST meets my goal, even if it wasn't how I intended to distribute the wordcounts. I consider this a minor miracle, given this month.
[ETA] 1400 words added to Bearly together on the last day, for a final count of 32.5k.

Things related to Writing:

Lots of advertising things
I've laid out a paperback version of Tropical Tiger Spy that should be here next week!

Art things!

I did one new portrait for Portrait Adoption:

(Click to adopt!)

I also dug several pieces out of my archives and added them to my portrait adoption page.

I did not do anything for Sketch Fest because the end of school made the month a freaking madhouse. (June Sketch Fest is next weekend!)

Life things!

We went traveling for 10 days to Chicago and Wisconsin, which was lovely.
Guppy successfully completed first grade. There were many playdates this month.
She also did a school concert and a piano recital (after four lessons!)
I decided to close Portrait Adoption.

MARCH REVIEW

I swear this month went faster than Februrary.

My biggest release was the Alaska Animals Translations (eeeee!), which was the accumulation of three years of work. There was much squeeing. I am contracted for a second book!

I also wrote 31k, mostly on Tropical Lion's Legacy (and associated untitled short story I hope to finish today), but also on Run and on Bearly Tolerable, which has a good start and is outlined to the end.

I survived Spring Break (barely).

I noodled some artwork for Sketch Fest and mocked up one cover and am 80% done with the pencil work for a portrait of Mal that is full of spoilers.

I released a 10-page hunky shifters coloring book download on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/676772560/hunky-male-shifter-coloring-pages-for

I did not get anything done for Fatemakers, which was the only other thing on my to-do list for the month, but it was a rollercoaster month in a lot of ways, so I'm really happy with what I did do.

PLANS FOR APRIL

* 3 pages for the 2nd Alaska Animals book
* Publish Lion's Legacy
* Revise Tropical Tiger Spy and launch changes
* 30k (1k a day) in writing total, spread out over whatever projects, with 20k earmarked for Bearly Tolerable so it's finished in May.
* Some other art progress of any kind.

Sketch Fest is scheduled for Friday!
ellenmillion: (Default)
So, that was a month!

Let's see:

I published two books: Tropical Leopard's Longing and DandeLION Season.
I also deleted massive amounts of DandeLION Season and wrote about 9,000 new words before publication.
I did edits and formatting for both books.
I wrote approximately 10,000 on Tropical Lion's Legacy
I did NINE pieces of artwork for the NDA project that will not die. (SOON IT WILL BE REVEALED!)
I hosted a birthday party for a seven-year-old-to-be. And survived.
I finished another hunky shifter coloring page (Bastian, not yet posted)
I did sketches for Sketch Fest and Muse Fusion, and a few random other sketches. I am rusty.
I started outlining Fatemaker stuff.
I pretty much knocked my goals out of the park.

For March:

Finish Tropical Lion's Legacy. It's at 20k, so probably another 20k of writing. I'm aiming at 1000 a day and we'll see where we get.

Release Bastian's page on Etsy. Or maybe a 10 page collection, now that I have enough!

FINALLY gush about the NDA project.

Outline Bearly Tolerable so I'm ready to hit it hard in April.

Do some art

Outline first Fatemaker book and create character sheets.
ellenmillion: (Default)
I was fairly lax with my August goals, because I've been face-down in burnout and barely smart enough to recognize that I needed a little time off. I also traveled for a week to see my folks (GREAT visit), and school started for Guppy.

And I did okay with those goals! Girl Nest Door only didn't come out this month because of technical difficulties out of my control, and anyway, it's scheduled for this weekend so I'm counting it as a checkmark for August.

X Release Girl Nest Door - queued for Sept 2 release
X Release Shifting Sands Box Set 2
X 1 Torn World short story
X 1 shifter coloring page (finished and scanned, but not yet released)
o Finish NDA art stuff (caribou and 2 translation pages) - caribou is about 3/4 done
o 15000 words on Dandelion Spring - 12k
o 1 print volume of something
X Get Scarlet and the Christmas Kittens in for revisions
X Get #junicorn out

I'm wibbling about the print volume. I'm thinking maybe Rails, but it would be pretty much for vanity only - I wouldn't expect to make a lot on them. Maybe that's a good enough reason? I don't think I'll do anything fancy or include illustrations.

Goals for September to follow. It will include finishing Dandelion Spring. And the NDA art stuff. And some legwork for the 25th anniversary of EMG in October. Look for more on that topic soon!
ellenmillion: (Default)
I've missed doing these - the last one I did was for October. I'll go in and fill in the gaps if I have a chance, but I like doing them when they're fresh in my memory. They are especially nice to do when I'm feeling like I'm spinning my wheels or not getting much done. Because it usually turns out that, yeah, I have gotten a few things accomplished!

Artwork

I started a sketch for a hunky shifters coloring page during Sketch Fest

I released five new pages that were included in Splendrix and the color cover, The Gathering. The Kickstarter, paired with Mitzi's Gardens and Goddesses Volume 3, was very exciting, and we closed it up at 3x the goal, with lots of great stretch goals.

Unicorn and fairies in forest

A gazelle shapeshifter in the jungle

See the rest here: http://ellenmillion.com/

I also got a lot of progress made on some other coloring pages, and finished inking Chase. (Not inked or scanned yet.)

Writing

I released Tropical Panther's Penance on the 15th.

I wrote 16,300 words, mostly on Tropical Christmas Stag.

Other Things

Frozen septic field. Yay.

Six year old growing pains.

Ridiculously late snow.

A roundup of monthly accomplishments!

Artwork

5 pieces for Sketch Fest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&page=2&date=92

I won #inktober!

Several big, complicated pieces, and a few easier or rougher ones. The last one was really phoned in, but I was so not going to give up when I was that close.

I officially released only a few of these - more would be released in November with the coloring book, and some of them are still on hold pending publication.

Writing

I finished a book! This was the fastest (to date) that I'd completed a book, wrapping up in 6 weeks. I wrote 11k of those words in October.

Other

So. Many. Playdates.
There were many small personal upheavals and minor dumpster fires.
And no snow to speak of, which is very weird for us.
ellenmillion: (Default)
Artwork

Seven pieces for Sketch Fest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=91
These were deliberately pencil sketches that I had plans to finish as part of #inktober the following month. (And one already finished in ink, a piece for a Patreon patron.)

Basically, nothing else finished...

Writing

Almost 15k written on the Not-a-Book, which is just making my 500/day goal.

Other

At least two Kindergarten colds. Thanks, germs.

I reduced my blogging to to-do lists, which helped me focus considerably.

Artwork

3 ACEOs for Sketch Fest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=90

It was skycat month at Torn World, and I did four ACEOs (plus a sketch) for the Muse Fusion:

Plus http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=562
http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=565
AND http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=563

And a new portrait: http://portraitadoption.com/portrait.php?id=2999

Writing

I edited my forth Not-a-Book, having finished it the month before. I also released it this month, which meant a certain amount of promotional and administrative work.

I also edited a short story for an anthology, which involved adding quite a lot of words.

I started a short story during the Muse Fusion, to the tune of 1200 words, but it isn't finished yet.

Other

August... was hard. Really hard. I started the month entirely crippled from overdoing it, which comes with a pile of baggage. Kindergarten was an exciting new addition to the schedule. And I was laid low when I lost my beloved dog just a few days after that. It wasn't a surprise - his health had been failing for some time, but that didn't make it less of a blow.

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos!

Artwork:

I released the remaining four pieces I did exclusively for Color On! Magazine:

I'm super happy with these.

I also released the tattoo I did for my nephew:

I was at the Tarot Expo for Sketch Fest weekend, and I used the combination to jump start my long-dormant Sketch Tarot project. I did five pieces for Sketch Fest, all tarot-themed, and 4 of them will become cards in my deck. (One is even inked and finished!) http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=89

Writing:

I finished the not-a-book! I wrote about 13k, which wasn't quite my 15k goal. But, BOOK! I also laid out the cover and wrote the blurb.

Other:

We finished the woodshed! (It may have been a little much for me.)

Artwork

I only did two sketches for the May Sketch Fest, but both of them spanned into full coloring pages that I released at Torn World for Sea Monster Month. Arguing Over Dinner also became my Patreon perk:

I also did this one: http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=554

At Muse Fusion, I did this painting:

I also did two sketches that didn't go anywhere, and two sketches I finished into coloring pages! http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=553 and http://www.tornworld.net/artpageview.php?id=552

And, miraculously, finished this painting that I started last year:

I also did this for a client:

In total, 4 complex coloring pages from sketch to finish, another inked piece, a teeny painting, and I finished a giant painting. Go, me!

Writing

A poem up at Torn World for subscribers from our previous Muse Fusion, "Tokens, Time, and Fire": http://www.tornworld.net/storypageview.php?id=614

I set a goal of 500 words/day, which I didn't quite meet, but I did get a little over 10,000 words written, which is a LOT for me!

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos!

April started late - I spent the first several weeks doing a whirlwind grandparent tour of three different states. I attempted #faepril, but burned out after 7 or eight of them, and wasn't particularly happy with any of them. I was also working ridiculous hard on exclusive work that I won't be able to show off until July (except to Patreon patrons!), so it was a brief month from the outside...

Artwork:

My big release was this painting, for 78Tarot:

I also did three rough sketches for Sketch Fest #86: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestartist.php?id=9&date=86
All of them were for my failed #faepril attempt, none of them were very polished!

Livejournal's insistence on adding advertising for visitors (despite my paid account!) was the final nail in that coffin, and I imported my journal to Dreamwidth, which is where my primary blogging now is.

I had a cold for a few weeks of the month. When I went to the doctor, they said 'walking pnemonia?' I said PLBT! and refused to get xrays, and was better then next week.

At Portrait Adoption:

At Sketch Fest, I did 6 (!) pieces, 3 coloring page sketches, 2 little paintings (for Torn World, below), and a toned paper portrait sketch (finished as a portrait, above).

For Torn World:

(several more were posted at the site, but they're part of April's update because that's when I released them in my blog.)

I did sketches at the Morris Thompson complex, including this one:

(Patreon patrons got more sketches.)

Writing

STILL NONE. (Okay, I did a little outlining.)

Other

A bear photo of Guppy on her birthday:

I re-coded Torn World to use the database of the rest of EMG. It was a MASSIVE upgrade, and I also added Muse Fusion functionality at the site itself.

I also worked on several projects that wouldn't be released until much later!
