I'm sure someone else will say this, but the trick is to throw yourself at the ground and miss. (Hey, it works for orbits...! Do you recall the diagram by I. Newton of trajectories off a mountain top?)

Yup, that's where I go the quote (but I should've attributed it! Sheesh!). I forget who said it though: Ford? Trillian? Narrator comment? Or...?
