I've decided to cancel this month's sketch fest. As [livejournal.com profile] mizkit pointed out, I'm having UNEXPECTED SURGERY IN MY BELLY. I think this counts as a valid excuse. If it doesn't, I don't want to know what does...

I've gone ahead and scheduled the next one for May: the 21st and 22nd, the same noon Friday to noon Saturday schedule we had agreed on for this one.

I figured out some coding things that were stumping me and made wild progress (okay, SOME progress, anyway) on my big project. I also got some work drafting in, for money... seeing as how I've been bleeding money this month to the doctors, and not exactly making much. We've hit our out-of-pocket insurance cap, I think, so there's that mixed blessing.

I want to be caught up on things before Friday, because I have No Idea how I'll feel next week. I was eating nachos within a week of getting my wisdom teeth out, but I suspect an abdomen is a little trickier than a jaw. Jake has already promised to rent incredibly funny movies and tickle me a lot.

Maybe I'll have something better to blog about in May...

Speaking from personal experience when I had my cyst taken out, you'll be missing the use of those core muscles when you want to get out of bed, stand, sit, squat, go toilet, shower or basically do any sort of movement. Sitting up in bed for me was a chore, could only do some much of it at a time, and mine was just keyhole surgery.

But since you're pretty trim, fit and do belly dancing I doubt you'll have as much trouble as I did. You might end up fasting and being given laxatives to clear everything out a day or so before surgery. That's the not very fun part. I was put on a clear liquid diet. There is not a lot to eat out there that is a clear liquid, filling, tasty or nutritious. Be friends with ravenous hunger the days up to and after the surgery. Though I'm not sure how different that is to your situation now, heh.

The one thing I'll stress is this: if you feel like you need to stay longer in hospital to recover, then do so. Don't let them boot you out. I ended up waiting 8 hours in the ER, bleeding from my op site and with a ridiculously high fever the day after I was discharged. Stayed in hospital for another week pumped up full of antibiotics. So yeah, I would've stayed put in the first place rather than being told "But we need the beds..."

Good luck, hope all goes well with the surgery and that you'll feel better quicker!

Oh, thank goodness. I actually woke up this morning concerned because I got the idea in my head that you were going to just plunge merrily along with your usual commitment to overcommitment, and I was trying to figure out how I was going to convince you that no, *really*, you *needed* to take the sketch fest off your plate this month. *laughs* *hugs*

Yup. abdominal surgery they don't tend to let you eat until after you've had a bowel movement, and anaesthetic slows things down a bit, so you may feel a bit weak and wobbly with hunger for a while.

Hope it all goes well and you feel lots better when all fixed.

They were really nice about letting me know that I could stay as long as I felt I needed to, and I've really liked all the staff I've dealt with at the hospital so far. Hopefully that continues! Thanks!

Seems as though I've got an intolerance to gluten (on top of my milk allergy ... go me!). Felt bloody awful for the last two days, and the only change was adding in a cup of pasta each day :( Ah well, could be a lot worse. So stabilising at the moment.
