I've got some friends (Matt and Nicki) moving down into the area of Grants Pass, Rogue River, Jacksonville, Medford or Ashland, and they're looking for some info on what areas are nice to stay temporarily, and maybe for a driveway to park their RV in for a few days. Any suggestions or ideas? Anyone who can give them some good 'don't stay on the west end by the railroad if you want to keep your hubcaps' sort of advice?

Thanks!

My husband, from Ashland, says to avoid Medford, since it's just not very nice. Jacksonville is ungodly expensive. Ashland is something of a tourist trap, but there's a really nice RV park on route 66 towards Immigrant Lake--it's a KOA or something, and he says is pretty cool. Skip Talent, Central Point, and Phoenix--Grant's Pass or Ashland is probably your best bet.

tee hee, I'm so tired I read Grants Pass as Grass Pants and it fully took me until the end of the post to realise what I'd done :)

PS, the printer is the bestest thing EVER, I'm having so much fun printing stuff :)

I haven't lived in Oregon long enough to have good knowledge of most places, but I can relay that Grants Pass is a good access point for Oregon Caves National Monument and for Redwood National and State Parks. The town itself is.. well, it's a town. City. Whatever. Didn't strike me as anything special, but the location is good.

Ashland is a town I would sell my firstborn to live in. Wonderful place (wistful sigh...)! If they're looking for someplace to stop on the way down, Brownsville is just off I-5 about four hours or so north of Ashland, and they're welcome to driveway space here at our place. As for recommendations within the Grants Pass/Ashland area, I'm sorry, I really can't make one. I've always stayed at the ranch in Roseburg and made a long drive to the Shakespeare events from the ranch, or rented hotel space in Ashland, when I've visited that area...
