HOLY HELL. They want more than ten thousand dollars to fix my car. It is not good when the friendly body shop mechanic says 'Gee, you really DID get hit hard.' One of the frame rails buckled, among other things.

And there's a dispute about insurance coverage. As in, the at-fault driver might not BE insured.

On the upside, MY coverage is awesome, and I am hopeful that we will get things moving quickly. I really miss my Tinaru!

Also on the plus side, I am waaay ahead on NaNoWriMo and more than halfway through my novel! Yay! It's amazing how cathartic writing 11k words about the end of the world can be when you're dealing with a mess like this...

Wow, that is some serious moolah! Um, are you sure it wouldn't be better to just get a new car?

How can they not be insured?!!

Fab work on NaNo WriMo, gogogo, you can get there! :)

Yikes! I hope your insurance comes through and covers most of that...

And wow, go you on Nano! You're further ahead than I am and I'm aiming for 80k this year!

Holy crap. They're not just going to total out the car? That sounds like more repair than it's worth. o_o Glad to read you weren't hurt at all in the accident!

And yay for writing explosions! A good kind of explosion lol

!! That sounds like new car time to me. Good to hear that your insurance company is doing well by you, though!

Wow, that sucks. The drivers in this state are why I carry uninsured/underinsured coverage. I'd love to drop it but I just don't trust them. Waaaay too many people drive without any coverage.

Is that legal?

Not in the slightest. But it still happens - a lot of people just hope they don't get caught.

Yes, fortunately, we've got this, too, so we won't be out too much. And this will be the second time that I've used it, go figure. I don't think I'll ever go without it again!

Their phone menu is a maze, but once you've passed that IQ test, I've gotten a real person with no hold time at all, and they've been SUPER nice, knowledgeable and fast.

Probably not a new car, which I have mixed feelings about - this one was only a year old, so it still has a lot of value.

It's an almost new car, so no, it doesn't sound like they'll be totaling it. Still, I about choked at the estimate.

Thank you! It looks like I won't be out of pocket much in any case. *writes and writes*

Unfortunately, they'd JUST bought their truck from someone and just hadn't gotten around to moving the insurance around, so the insurance company is saying they won't cover the driver.

I feel so badly for the driver. :(

And there's an argument to be made for a new car, but it was nearly new, so it still has a lot of value.

Gnah.

Well, good luck getting it straightened out. Hopefully that at least means you won't get a royal runaround. (My mother after an accident that was the other party's fault had to nag for months and months and months before they and their insurance stopped protesting and paid up.)

The driver at fault was really young - this is going to be a hell of a learning experience for the poor thing. :/ Bet she never drives without checking her insurance again!

And yes, apparently the truck hit me quite a lot harder than I realized! Horrah for modern cars that crumple... I think. (Expensive to fix, but it absorbed a LOT of impact.)
