Who knew that sitting quietly at a red light could turn into such a hassle?

Insurance Company #3 is calling now, for the truck that actually slid into me (the not-at-fault party). They seem as nice as my own company (Geico, btw), but I am VERY tired of the phone ringing.

I wish I could bill this time to someone...

Writing still goes fabulously. I have whizzed past the 30k mark, and pulled off a daring rescue with... only a few casualties. I get to pick up bodies next, and decide what to do with the bad guys. I have been faced with a rather sticky ratings question, as I've tackled topics I've never touched before. All kinds of firsts with this novel. I'm also thinking rather farther ahead and trying to decide how to wrap things up... there are a few choices for the natural closure of the story as a whole. I'm a little concerned I don't have 20k left of story to tell... but if it comes down to it, there are a LOT of places in the first several sections that really, really need fleshed out, so hopefully I can hit the magic 50. Otherwise, we get epilogue bits that will probably be chopped out at the end.

Have a revised copy of the cover:

Okay, food and some designwork. I have an idea for a solution to a sticking coding problem, and a whole pile of emails that I've been ignoring. Back to the salt mines!

ETA: Aaaaand, insurance #4 calls?? Still looking likely that the at-fault driver was uninsured.

Well.

The estimate on repairing my car keeps going up. BOTH front frame rails will be replaced, and a laundry list of other items that spans three pages, including painting both front doors (and the entire front end), removing the engine and suspension and seats and steering and dash, and replacing reservoirs for several things, and my battery, and the fender and the hood and the lights. Apparently, the whole car is one big fascinating onion to the mechanic and insurance adjuster - they keep peeling back parts and finding more damage. One of the things that will be replaced is the front left airbag, which did not go off. The suspicion is because I was at a complete stop, the impact was JUST BARELY below what it takes to trigger it. But they're replacing it anyway.

It still does not quite total my (nearly new!) car, and I am assured that what I will get back will be a completely like-new, fully repaired, totally rebuilt vehicle that will still be under warranty and drive me very safely around.

It's also going to take at least a month.

*cries*

I do get a rental, if I want it, but I have to pay $22/day to upgrade to a 4WD, which is what I'd need where I live. I may do that a few times here and there, but for the most part, I am going to be one big homebody for the next month.

Now, I think I'm going to go write about a daring rescue and stab some bad guys with sharpened rusty pipes to make me feel better.

HOLY HELL. They want more than ten thousand dollars to fix my car. It is not good when the friendly body shop mechanic says 'Gee, you really DID get hit hard.' One of the frame rails buckled, among other things.

And there's a dispute about insurance coverage. As in, the at-fault driver might not BE insured.

On the upside, MY coverage is awesome, and I am hopeful that we will get things moving quickly. I really miss my Tinaru!

Also on the plus side, I am waaay ahead on NaNoWriMo and more than halfway through my novel! Yay! It's amazing how cathartic writing 11k words about the end of the world can be when you're dealing with a mess like this...

This icon is particularly apt, today.

I'm having a very bad 'blech!' moment. I am feeling like my writing is Crap, my ideas are Stupid and I was epic crazy to even attempt Torn World. It is cold feet, I can accept that. Tomorrow, the site goes public (though the story doesn't start in earnest until January), and it's a little like getting ready to parade around stark naked.

Add to that the fact that tomorrow the big giftshop news goes live and I have to write up that still (this isn't an easy thing to write!!), and headcold from hell is still making me sound frog-like and phlegmy and OMGBUYINGACAR and a very strange night sleep-wise. (I took cold medicine, and then it was morning, except that I was still way drowsy and my dreams were very vivid and weird and clung to me longer than usual.)

It also occurred to me today that tomorrow being July 1 also means I have to do artistpay. *dies a little*

Blech, I say.
