Spent almost all of yesterday afternoon waiting to see the orthopedic doctor, who I saw for about 10 minutes. I have mixed feeling about the results - xrays showed no bone damage, so it is all in my head and I'm a big crybaby all soft tissue damage in both wrist and ankle. My tendons in the wrist are inflamed, which the doctor surmised was from repetitive use, after I explained what I do with it. I have a magic prescription anti-inflammatory cream to apply 3x a day. The solution is not to use the wrist, but that's really not an option. There are surgical procedures, if the pain becomes unsurmountable. The ankle is just a bad sprain, which can last up to 6 months, apparently. (!!!) He advised me to wear shoes with ankle support, which I have not been doing, and to keep wearing the brace.
So... more of the same.
The wrist is feeling a great deal better today, and the ankle is not, particularly.
Sally forth!
Lots of coding to do, today, and a bunch of filing and studio-finishing. Depending on my wrist, I'm really chomping at the bit to do some art and writing.
Oh, and we MADE it for Commission-Control! Horrah!! I am adding the site to my freelance paid column, and getting cranking on it asap! You guys are the best!

(In my case it's a ganglion cyst that pops up randomly every now and then.)

Date: 2011-01-22 04:01 am (UTC)I used to have to wear it every day but after a few months I stopped wearing and the pain was gone. Now I only use it when I have occasional flair ups.
This is the one I use. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ACU1MY/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B001ACQKCE&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1HMMSZZCZEHG8XZ94QP1)

Date: 2011-01-22 02:04 pm (UTC)There's no 'just' about a bad sprain -- sprains stretch and damage the muscle tissue and if the sprain is bad enough, it may never fully recover. I had a bad sprain when I was 13 that I wasn't given physical therapy for and was pushed to use long before it was healed; this left my ankle weak enough that when I sprained it again in 2006, it was MUCH worse and I was mostly housebound for 3 months (it was an icy winter) and five years later I still have to be careful of how I step and how I hold my foot, and the damn thing aches in cold weather.
So don't get into the trap of thinking it's no big deal because it's 'just' soft tissue or 'just' a sprain. Do physical therapy but do NOT push yourself in using it. It will take take time, and it will hurt and be incredibly annoying, but you want it to heal properly to lessen your risk of later problems and structural weakness that can lead to more sprains. Trust me on that one.
