I am so discouraged.

The husband and I went carpet shopping last night, and our choices... suck.

It costs about twice as much as we were planning to spend to get nothing like what we wanted. Where are the colors? I wanted a dark midnight blue, or a royal red, or maybe a really rich looking brown. What choices are in town? Beige. Various shades of beige and cream. Who wants to spend that kind of money on BEIGE? We went to four stores, scoured the remnants, looked at everything they had in stock, and it's just... pathetic. There was one remnant that we both loved, a gorgeous, plush, dark blue... that was several feet too short in each direction. We can break the bank and order something that we'll get in 6 weeks, but that is in every way not what I want to do. I was so looking forward to having an attractive floor for once, and now... pfff. Even if we had the money to special order something, it's more than a month off. SO discouraged.

Also, I think I'm getting a cold, my back hurts like CRAZY and I slept like crap.

And last, but not least, I was so disappointed by the carpet shopping that I spent the evening sulking - and didn't do the ONE thing that I needed to get done yesterday, which is update my Amazon listings before my professional account expired... which it did at 4:30 this morning.

ARGH.

So, I'm out another month of fees, which I will cough up in November, when maybe pre-Christmas sales will make it worthwhile, and I will actually have some of the new titles in stock.

On the topic of mixed blessings, I do have some paid work to do today; it's nice to finally have some to do, but I mostly just want to go back to bed today.

Off to do that, and see if accomplishing something makes me feel better.

I don't know a huge amount about carpeting, but ... can you get something in cream and paint or dye it in colors you like? Or have the blue piece bound as an area rug?

I hope you're feeling better soon!

Carpet is tough. I'm a fan of berber, because it lasts without getting all run down looking; that's what's in the boys' room. Good luck!

*hugs* Sorry for all the bad stuff.

Ugh... What is it with people staying with the safe and boring beiges and creams?

A room-sized rug may have to do - but our room is odd-sized, which means ugly painted subfloor will show at the edges. Definitely non-optimal.

The nursery already has laminate, for this very reason! This carpet is for our own bedroom!

you could always use the remnant in the blue, and a small bit of the Beige to make a border it make it fit the rest of the room. Not sure if it would work for you but its a thought.

I actually really like this idea. I think if it's done/cut well, this could be quite attractive.

This is exactly what I was going to suggest too. :)

I worked as an architectural designer for a while and we had spaces where we did this that looked great, but it definitely needs to be well cut :)

Feel free to use or lose this idea as you see fit...but have you thought about carpet tiles? Some are quite plush, come in a wide array of colors and patterns, and different companies make different tile sizes. (And I'm sure you could cut them to fit awkward spaces.) Some have sticky backings that you press to the floor, some adhere with double-sided tape. However, the real beauty of carpet tiles is that if a small section becomes soiled or damaged, you just pry up the affected tiles and lay down fresh ones. :)

My parents did this in my brother's room. Turned out really neat!

Get the beige and drop paint on it, if you do it right (and I think you can) you can have a one of a kind abstract rug. :-) :-) :-) :-) but I like the carpet tile idea also...

Just my thoughts.
