Of course, I'm answering as a prompter, not an artist, and, as a prompter, it's really about getting more people looking at/having time for your prompts, and, in that sense, the more time, the better!
I like both ways. 48 allows for a scheduling conflict on one day and still having the ability to participate, which is nice.
No matter which way you do it, I'm hugely grateful for all your effort. THANK YOU. The amount of inspiration I get from Sketchfest is really invaluable. :)
With working around the bub, the full weekend length was good for me. There's only so many sleep times I can get sketching in, so it was nice having more chances to get stuff done.
I might have participated without the longer open window, however, I keep on intending to do that and it's been months since I managed. This felt much better than the 24-hour time slot you were using! I think I'd like it open a little later into my Sunday, but 48 hours was good, and I don't think you'd want to get a lot longer.
Can't vote via my phone :( it's funny, but changing the time changed how I worked... I sketched in the afternoon as opposed to the morning because I knew there was mote time. I liked it, but would still be happy with the 24 hour window we currently use
Longer was definitely better for me! I usually have trouble finding time to participate in the 24-hour fests (or else I forget that it's going on, and only remember after it's over).
As aprompter, I would like more oppertunity to prompt. 15 was good for the 24 hour timeframe, but I was frustrated by not being able to add more prompts, not all prompts are sketched and I would like to be able to add more after the first round is done, I know of one artist that was looking for more prompts, I guess nothing caught her fancy, but I couldn't add more because of the limit.
I don't know if i am the only one with this "problem"' but that's my two cents.
Still spent money way too fast....I went through $200.00 and could go another $200.00 if i had it. :-) :-) :-) :-)
How did the longer window affect your participation? Something else I will elaborate on in the comments...:
I was surprised that I wasn't obsessed to sit there the whole time I was awake(like normal), but maybe having to pack and sort helped me. <:) It was really nice to not feel that pressure, and get other things done during that time. I think my craziness goes in cycles. :D
Now, my question is: how well does this work for you?
I was still sitting there waiting for you to post something, hopeing I didn't miss anything.....and now with Ava sketching also, I have to watch double. :)
If you keep an eye on my "claims" down at the bottom of my art page it'll give you an idea of what I am up to. :) I seem to go in cycles like this: 1. a little, 2. a medium, and 3. a CRAZY WACKADOOOOO!!!
Next month might be a crazy though, instead of a medium, BUT I am not gonna let myself until I get December done. Have to have a little discipline. <:)
I am still trying to figure out how long I want to put things on hold. I am waffling between 12 and 24 hours.
I had some time on Friday evening, but was kind of brain-fried, and wound up staring blankly at the prompts (though I did post some). Saturday I was busy; Sunday I got a little done. It was nice not to lose the opportunity to insufficient brain and/or motivation on Friday.
I like the bigger window to get things done, myself! I wouldn't have been able to participate in the usual time frame because of a busy Saturday. I got a few sketches done on Sunday, though! (Gotta find time to scan!)
Personally, I've usually struggled with the 24-hour timeframe, which goes 4pm-4pm EST for me. I never expect get anything done on Friday because 4pm is when I start making dinner, eating at 5, doing dishes, and spending some time with my husband in the evening, then a 10pm bedtime. So I almost never get to draw on the first night of sketch fest. On Saturday, we go grocery shopping early in the morning and I usually do some house cleaning, which means a late start on sketch fest for me. By the time I've built up enough steam to get into the artwork on Saturday, sketch fest is over. I like the extra 24 hours because it gives me all of Saturday and most of Sunday to get into it! :) (Also this sketch fest and certain past sketch fests are hard to to do because I was running my skype sketch jam thing, which I started in my art community about a year and a half ago. It's generally the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month.) *_* Busy arts.
(Whichever timeframe you decide on, I also want to add my thanks for running this! It's just such a great idea, and you've set everything up perfectly with all of your hard work on the sketch fest site! Thank you!)
Doesn´t the amount of sketches speaks for itself? -> 343!!!! Wohooo!
I found it wonderful to sit with my coffee on my PC in the morning, scrolling through the sketches, picking prompts... on two days in a row! I did not felt rushed anymore and I did not have to decide between sketching and more serious/important work.
I would be happy if you would keep the 48h Sketch fest time... if it is ok with you at all.
The times it starts and ends has always messed with me as well. They are 4pm eastern for me and that is mid day. I always plan to join in and by the time I get ready, I realize it is already over. lol I'm a late riser. The extra day left me plenty of time in the middle to pick and choose and take my time. I really appreciate you giving this a try and thank you for all you do, Ellen. <3
My recovery from my appendectomy left me struggling to feel creative, but I left prompts and imagined that had I been feeling better I would have been able to get more sketches done with the 48hr time period :D It allows for more after baby has gone to bed sketch time, which is when I can generally get the most done. Hoping to participate like crazy in the next one :D
I LOVED having the extra time. I spent all the first day wanting to participate but in a complete mindfunk where I couldn't do anything. My Muse decided to pop in halfway through day 2 and was I excited!!
Often it is such a squeeze for me to participate since I'm busy gone on fridays. Having the second day is much more roomy for me. I wouldn't have been able to sit down to any sketches this last time if it wasn't for the extended time frame.
I think the idea is solid. I just missed the last one due to not knowing when it was being held. o.O Oops! So I had other things scheduled over top of it. >.< However having it as a longer period sounds useful!
