That, in case you cannot read it, is showing that our thermometer is pegged. Our thermometer goes to 120 degrees. It's a SCORCHER. It's also about 20% humidity, and there's more of this in the forecast. If anyone thinks they're going to shoot off Fourth of July fireworks next week, I hope that someone throws them in the river.

Guppy just woke up! Must rescue her and finish folding laundry.

ETA: That is in direct sunlight, where you should never measure temperature; our calibrated weather station recorded 91, which is still PLENTY hot. It's supposed to be in the mid-90s tomorrow.

I'M DYIIIIIIIIING. *falls over* We are seriously talking about installing some form of air conditioning, since the overall warmer temperatures probably mean this isn't the last heat wave we're going to see in the next few years, and our house (like most Alaska houses, I guess) is designed to soak up heat rather than getting rid of it.

We have a portable unit in the bedroom and it is a LIVESAVER having somewhere cool to sleep. We ordered it from Sears - the fools honored their free shipping. :P We have an outlet built into the wall for it, but the first year just used blueboard with a hole in it for a window cover. HIGHLY recommended.

What the actual f...? So like, is that because the thermometer is in the full sun?

2 weeks ago, I was in Death Valley. It was 122 F. In the shade. And like 6% humidity. And that was bad enough.

DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS, omg.

Oof! 122 and 6%! Yikes! This was in the sunlight - in the shade, it was 91. Which is PLENTY hot, still.

Drinking tons! And making sure Guppy has lots of sippy cups of water, too.

I had no idea it got that warm where you are. My mind is blown... we've been complaining about the 85 degree heat here in Boston. Stay hydrated, stay safe, take it easy!

I grew up with 100+ and dry, and found that more pleasant than I find 90F and 90% humidity now.
One drinks a crazy lot of water, and eats a fair bit of salt, and it's mostly okay.

But I'm also near Boston and whining about the humidity, so these memories may be biased. :)

I'd much rather have 100+ and dry. I was in the midwest one summer and it was so sticky and horrible that I couldn't even draw. I even had trouble reading, because my fingers kept sticking to the pages.

Land of extremes!

I have two questions:
1. Is it allowed to get that hot in Alaska?
2. Is 20% considered humid in Alaska? Because here I think it would feel almost unpleasantly dry XD

20% is pretty dry -- that's why no one wise will be launching fireworks, as that'd be a recipe for a forest fire, as all the plants will be like kindling.

Ahh, that makes a lot more sense! Thank you.

We've tried passing legislation to prevent temperatures of this extreme, but the unwashed hippies insist on personal freedom of mother nature. :P

20% is not humid, no. It occasionally gets to single-digits in the winter, but I think we're a little more moderate, usually.

Wow, stay out of the sun, eh? :) I grew up in AZ where it got hot, but the humidity was low, here, on the east coast, when it gets into that humidity it is miserable! Expected to be in the 90's today with a heat index of 101 or something. I work in a place that has no A/C except for the office. I'd LOVE, "...but it's a DRY heat!" >_

We only have A/C in the bedroom, and OH, it's been nice.

I don't envy you your humidity - I spent a few weeks in 90% humidity and YUCK. Just, YUCK.

That's crazy! Wasn't it just snowing there like two weeks ago? :)

Just a little more than a month ago, anyway! It's been a NUTTY year so far.
