Went berry picking with sister and monster yesterday, and got 3 quarts of lingonberries in very short order! The density of berries in some places was nothing short of astounding.

This photo doesn't really do it justice.

We also found this mystery:

Any locals know what this is?? It's got a very orange berry and was growing in the same kind of semi-shaded area as the cranberries were. My plant books have nothing matching the description.

Was up at 4 again this morning. Reasoning with an 18 month old is futile.

Here, she has emptied her book drawer and decided to sit in it:

Bread is rising, I've made noodles and beets (beeeee) and we've got rental equipment coming any moment now so we can work on the trench for power to the garage. Monster probably won't sleep through that. Trusses are nearly all up on the garage, as is all the siding.

When you miss home row and type bkywvweet because you aren't looking at the keyboard, Google suggests 'blurred vision.' Thank you, Google.

Sketch Fest payments to send today, and working on Archivistrix and various artwork.

That plant is in my "Plants of Denali" book! The book says it's called timberberry, northern comandra (??), or pumpkin berry (Geocaulon lividum). The book says it has "an edible berry with very little flavor".

Oh! Thanks, I hadn't run across them before! Or hadn't recognized them - they don't have very many berries and the plants aren't that eyecatching.

I'm pretty sure I've seen them before, but I had no idea what the plant was called, so I learned something too! :D

I didn't know its name, but used to run across them fairly regularly back in my Alaska berry-picking days. And indeed. They have little flavor. (just a taste won't hurt, right?)

Huh! I hadn't run across them before, I don't think. I'll stick to the yummy berries!

Yes, yes it is. Thanks for the giggle on a Monday.

Has Elsa always been an early riser? Kierra seems to be a 5am baby, although some morning gravitate toward 4am. x_x Trying to find the balance between "no, you REALLY need to sleep" and "okay, you're definitely up for a full wake period, huh" is not an agreeable 4am activity. D:

She was sleeping until 9 up to a few weeks ago, and goes back to sleep until 8 more recently, so I'm not sure what's up with these morning spells lately. I' m trying not to let her get used to the idea she'll get anything fun and let her work herself back to sleep. It's been 45 minutes of hollering so far this morning, she got started early!
