I am hugely, greatly pleased with myself at the moment.

Yesterday I wired two receptacles and the subpanel in the garage - an elegant job, if I say so myself - and this morning we wired in a 50 Amp fuse at the house and nervously threw the switch. One bad moment while we figured out the the GFI had gotten tripped during installation and BAM, we have power in the garage. I did the happy power dance with the drill. (No, there is no video of this event!)

Seriously, I think that's pretty impressive. Jake and I, by ourselves, designed the system, dug a trench, laid cable, assembled the exterior connections, ran wire, and wired in a switch, a subpanel, and a handful of fuses - plus the installation of the insulation, vapor barrier, and sheetrock. It's one of those skillsets that feels useful and rewarding. Next up is the receptacle in the ceiling for the garage door opener, then a few more outlets, some lights, a fan, and the switches. We get the heater installed on Wednesday - the power outlet I put in is to service that. VERY EXCITING.

However, now that the grouchy child is down for her nap, I have some artwork to wrangle - I would ideally like to get the PDF of Fantastrix off tomorrow! And finish the ink on the RTH calendar! I re-drew some of Cloudfern's workbench because I wasn't happy with the perspective.

We got to play 'Truck or Earthquake' earlier today - and the answer was earthquake. A rumble, a few things rattled, I had time to ask "Do you feel that?" while the trees swayed a bit... and then it was over. Less than a magnitude 3, but not too far off.

And in moose tales (for [livejournal.com profile] ellettra!), there were two moose in our yard yesterday - a young bull sporting a decent-sized rack and a young cow. Baby mooses next year? Guppy, seeing the bull out of the window in the door, started panting - that's the sign for 'dog,' and gets used for everything that is large and dark. Given our dog, this makes some sense.

In other wildlife stories, the fox left Norway a poop present in Norway's food dish this morning. A little poop full of little berry seeds!

Awww, I want to see the happy dance with drill.

Yay, useful skills! The range of them that you have is astonishing.
