I have a post in the works regarding Christmas ornaments with gorgeous photos, but you may have to wait until tomorrow for that. The marital unit has requested a clarification of yesterday's post ("I'm getting no love in your blog!" he says).

The giant Easter chicken (I have been asked to specify) was not unceremoniously kicked. Indeed, there was a great deal of ceremony to the kicking of the chicken, as it was part of a game with very rigid rules. The process of play was that the chicken was kicked and the toddler fetched it, with many giggles and a few shrieks of delight.

Photographic evidence of toddler's love for chicken*:

In related updates, the toddler figured out how to unlatch the gate at the top of the stairs today. In the last month, she has also mastered opening the cabinets and doors. She'd be a right menace if she weren't such a fabulous kid, but the supervision level has necessarily gone up significantly lately. We don't have enough storage space to keep everything within her reach kid-friendly (though we've taken steps to make sure anything left is at least not kid-deadly), so we're having to work on self-control and 'not yours'. Results on that? Very mixed. Greatly dependent on how badly she wants something. It's getting much harder to do things like leave her in a room long enough to switch laundry around or fetch wood for the stove.

In unrelated updates, I survived a trip to the Post Office, largely due to the fact that I did not actually have to wait in the line that stretched from the (closed?!) lobby to the opposite end of the building. We also went shopping, which wasn't as painful as I'd feared it would be. It helped that I was there well before noon.

I stole a little writing time last night and whipped out a 1200 word story that I REALLY like. It's Torn World, and sitting in the canon queue now, but I'll share it with you once it's been reviewed and posted. I'm down to 2 stories remaining towards my goal, and I've got a hefty start on another, but I'm not real happy with how it's going. I may put it aside and try something else.

*The giant Easter chicken was a White Elephant gift from a friend who said she'd gotten it as a gift. "Because nothing says 40 year old woman like a giant stuffed Easter chicken," she told me with laughter.

I remember we spent some time with the sharp knives in a box in a cabinet, on a shelf at about adult-head level...

Yup. We're planning to hang a magnetic strip above the sink for those. (At the moment they are out of reach, but they won't be for long!)

<looks dubiously at the chicken> I'm not sure from these photographs, mind, but that "chicken" looks suspiciously like a duck.

Guppy with red jumper and duck is adorable, though!

Also, yay, story!

The duck versus chicken is under debate. 'Chick,' probably, rather than grown 'chicken,' at the least, but the husband unit also thinks its beak is duck-like. It's just so much FUN to say chicken, and Guppy usually then does the chicken dance, complete with flapping elbows, after very seriously putting down anything she's holding because it's only properly done with both arms.

Glad it's not just me! Chicken is a fun word, but so is duck, IMO.

And the very serious chicken dance sounds even more adorable. :)
