April usually manages to psych us out... the last week has been gloriously sunny. The snow sunk considerably, and there were even rocks showing in places on the driveway! It felt like spring! Things actually melted! Surely, summer was just around the corner!

And this morning there were close to 6 inches of snow over everything, and it won't be above freezing for a few days. *sigh*

It is, however, gorgeous. Guppy and I will go out and play in it later, but for now, it's nice to stay inside watching Batman.

I got a little more work done on my Sea Monster project this weekend, and I got my tarot card ready to ink:

Any comments before I start inking would be welcome!

... torn world tarot card? Three of pentacles?

3 of Pentacles, yes. Torn World, only because that aesthetic seems to be stuck in my brain. :P

The perspective/distance between the woman in the foreground and the ladder-people seems off to me, unless she really is that tall relative to them/the ladder.

Wow!

That looks awesome to me.

Urgh. I'm not sure I want to fix that... that would be a serious re-jigger of the entire foreground. Could it be explained if she's standing on a dais?

Only you would draw all those tiny trim details and chain links and ...
:)

I'm not sure that it would fix it, because of the dimensional proportions of the background people and the woman...i'm sorry I don't have better vocab to describe what feels off to me or how to fix it.... :(

While the placement of ladder, toolbox, and table makes them seem quite close to her, I'm parsing the one on the ladder as young/short.

... though now that I'm looking at them so fussily, the forearm and hand of the one holding the ladder seem a touch off. Short forearm, and the zize and placement of the hand doesn't quite seem to work with the idea that his thumb is wrapped around the ladder support?

This is quick and dirty in Photoshop, but does this read more accurately to you?

There's a thumbhole in the ladder there? Er, no - I shall fix that. :P

Also, see below for a possible perspective correction.

Yay! I will go ahead and ink it as-is, then adjust it (more neatly) in Photoshop for the final version. Re-drawing then entire foreground would be painful - and I'm not sure my paper surface would forgive it.

you may need to tweak the arches/foremost chandelier, just a little too...i can't quite tell. but even as is, that is far less problematic to look at than the relationship between the people that we've been discussing.

Nice trick, that!

That (the arches and first chandelier) might look a tad off because of the skew of the photo I took - they aren't quite straight here, but they are in the original.

My only thought, if you haven't inked that part already, is you might want to avoid doing the hammer-and-nail-puller-in-one is a very specific shape. Doing them separately would add just a hint of different cultural history. On the other hand, if you're hammering, you'll need a nail puller handy, and for the most part in simple tools, form follows function.
