I got to go sketching at the botanical gardens with [livejournal.com profile] laylalawlor over lunch. I think it hit 95 today, which is ridiculous, but it was somehow miraculously clear, without even a hint of smoke in the air. I am a delicate flower, and not accustomed to this kind of heat, but I still enjoyed every moment of it.

Given that everything else I attempted to do today was an exercise in frustration, I shall leave the recap of day at that. I hate paperwork.

In the category of things I will regret my daughter learning to say...

I mentioned that my tummy hurt a little. The daughter's response: "You should toot. It will make your tummy feel better!"

I gave her an egg crate to play with. She thought it looked a bit like a lifejacket, and belonged on the cat.

And, I have proof that it is voles devestating my lettuce. This is a leaf half-drug into a hole.

Franzi is just beginning to understand "toots" and that they are hilarious.

However, she has enough issues going poop (she is INSANELY constipated) that it's usually rather painful/difficult for her... so potty jokes in general will probably be kept to a minimum.

My daughter has moles/voles (what's the difference?) in her yard. My mother suggested an "ultrasonic" something that she ordered online. Relatively inexpensive and solar powered. Might be something you should look into... Another alternative is to put moth balls in the holes...

The thing that always worked for me with constipation was to be adequately hydrated, but I understand it can be different issues in different people.

Those ultrasonic things are plug and play -- but they're sold under different brand names for different uses: yard pests, insect protection, removal of unwanted humans from an area... I'm not sure every kind works for every problem (or is different from the others), as I haven't tested the audio output. My personal experience is, they're annoying to hear and will probably chase off animals, but are not necessarily reliable in all situations.

She drinks tons of milk, juice, and water... but since she started on baby food at about 6 months, she's always had a hard time with her bowel movements. Sometimes they are so hard and dry they almost crumble. But her MOTHER was exactly the same way (I remember massaging her butt trying to get it out when she was just 4-5-6 months old), I don't remember it lasting this far into the toddler years tho. Nana holds her against her chest with her legs drawn up, that seems to help quite a bit... and it's not every time that she has difficulty, but it is almost always hard, regardless of the effort she has to put forth to get it out.

Honestly, I haven't looked at the ultra-sonic thing... my mom suggested it for my daughter's moles, so I thought I would pass it on. Mom did have a bad mole problem, and the ultrasonics worked for her.
