Tuesdaily... with chicken stories

ellenmillionLast week, we took care of our neighbor's chickens.* Every morning, I walked up - sometimes by myself, and sometimes with Guppy in tow - about a quarter mile through the snowy woods to open their pen, give them some treats, and gather eggs.
The first morning, I was pleased to find two eggs, though the chickens were puzzled because I was there before their timed light came on. I came home to make them for a very excited Guppy.
I got the pan heated up.
*thunk*
That was when I remembered that the neighbor had fake eggs in their nests to show the hens where to lay. I tested the other egg.
*thunk*
Then I made something else for Guppy (because we had no other eggs). She was enormously excited by this unexpected turn of events and told everyone she talked to that day about the fake eggs that the chickens gave us!
It was really rather lovely having an excuse to go hiking for a mile a day (two trips a day, about half a mile round-trip), and it was exciting gathering eggs. Norway particularly appreciated it, though I quickly found that I needed to tie him in front of the house well away from the chickens. Guppy went with me for one trip most days, and enjoyed the chickens a lot.
In other news, I have decided on dates for the new coloring book Kickstarter: April 12 through May 5! It's just about 3 weeks out, and will be just a little longer than 3 weeks. I have some exciting things to release, and some amazing upgrades possible. The submissions, you guys... I am BLOWN away.
I am desperate to find a good name for my next solo book, though... Dotminatrix... Fantastrix... ?? Artistrix? (Illuminatrix and Illustratrix both have established people on the web.) Fabulatrix? Ellenatrix? Millionatrix? Trix of the Trade? (And now I totally want to do a kids book now called Trix ARE for Kids)
*I don't like to advertise being out of the house myself, and I find it unspeakably rude that I might advertise a neighbor being out of their house, so I put off chicken stories until they were safely back.
