Is it cheating to draw black cats in white/grey/silver/colors on black paper? Might get you the inky void that looks back at you while saving wear and tear on your black pens and pencils. Grey cats are not so invisible. :)
Yes, she is a dryad! A very old and powerful one. I don't think anyone guessed until the last book came out. (Though a couple of people guessed she was a spirit of the island, which is....close.)
There are reasons I have so few photos of my cat (who is entirely black with a few white hairs.) You take a photo and she is a black void of doom, sometimes with eyes.
I love the expression, though!
And the top sketch has a wonderful sense of movement and presence.
