I am reminded to be grateful.

Our excavator contractor... the same guy who had one employee jailed and one fired for running over a transit... he got married on Friday up at Circle Hot Springs. He's an older guy, runs this excavation company and a custom motorcycle shop. He got in a helicopter after his wedding, to fly back to the hot springs after a beautiful, happy ceremony in traditional Alaskan laid-back style. A few minutes later, the helicopter crashed. His wife, of less than an hour, was killed. He's in the hospital with three broken ribs, a broken shoulder and one or two broken legs.

Believe me, I'm not going to call him up and bug him about our dirtwork. Actually, his foreman is taking good care of us, and our driveway is finished. Jake and our friend Matt (who owns the Beat Garden) will be compacting the gravel pad this afternoon. Then we get to call Hayden to come pour the footings and basement. Yay! I've posted some pictures here.

Found a chunk of crystal about the size of my fist in the excavation, quartz no doubt, but with clear and amber and nearly purple-black areas, which I've never seen before. I'm hoping I can find someone who can cut it for me, of course it's very raw and ugly right now.
