My father in law passed away on Saturday. He had a heart attack (we think) on Thursday night, and lost consciousness. He was recuscitated by the paramedics, but had little to no brain activity. Two neurologists and a cardiologist agreed that there was really nothing left, and Saturday, they unplugged him. He died within a few hours.
Jake was really, really close to his dad, so it's been a pretty emotional couple of days.
Jake's dad didn't want a funeral or service, and his stepmom is coping pretty well and has her family there for her. It was entirely unexpected, but not terribly surprising... his dad had a weak heart, and had already been through one attack. I am so grateful I had a chance to meet him last year and spend some time with him.
I'm pretty drained... haven't been able to accomplish much this weekend. We've cleaned up the house - always a blancing sort of feeling - and took several very long walks in our beautiful woods. I made sausage gravy for breakfast this morning - that was Jake's dad's favorite breakfast (bad heart or no...) and seemed very fitting.
The last of my lilies is bursting into bloom today. It's raining for the first time this summer, and everything smells heavenly.
