Swayed by your Wacom delight, I have decided patience is good, and instead bought the worlds tiniest mouse, which works great! Has a cool retractable cord thingy, too.

Now I have software questions!

I need an ftp program and a chat program (preferably free). Any suggestions? And/or suggested place for download?

I have one. WSFTP. Free, open license for personal academic use. Just say that you're a student and using it only from home during the installation process and it'll install just fine. If you wannit, reply to this and I'll toss you the link to where I've uploaded it.

The FTP I'm using: AceFTP3 Free. (They have a Pro version--don't get that. Get the Free version.) A google search should bring you to the homepage.

There's good old mIRC for going to chatroom places like #woodworks. Unless you want to talk to specific people then there's a selection of IMs like ICQ, AIM, Y!M, etc. Y!M would be the easiest since you already have a Yahoo account.

I use WSFTP also. Not a super fancy FTP, but not buggy and it gets the job done. I've also used Cute FTP and liked that.

Chat programs - I mainly hold to my tiny buddy list on AIM. ^_^

I use CoffeeCup FTP.. You can get it from download.com. It's really easy and free of bells and whistles, plus it has a coffee cup as its little icon, which makes me happy. ;)

I use Trillian for chat (I am assuming you are talking about IRC.. if not, then ignore this..hehe), MSN, and AOL IMs..You can get that from www.ceruleanstudios.com

I use Coffeecup freeFTP, too. It's really good, IMHO.

For cjatting, I use a paid mIRC (you can use it unpaid without restriction, but the author will be happier if you pay). Alternatives qould be e.g. the IRC module in Mozilla (which seems to be working fine, too), and many of the multi-IM-modules. Trfillian is famous, personally I use Miranda and it, too, should be able to use IRC as well as IM, ICQ, Y!M etc.
