I've got a friend in the Sweden area who has recently had a monitor failure and can't afford to replace it right now. If you are in the country (I'll find out where, exactly) and have, or know of someone who has, a serviceable monitor you'd part with for little or nothing, I'll pay some transportation costs and can probably drum up the rest. Followup! Turns out that it was a false alarm... it was some kind of fuse problem. Thank you so much, anyway! :)
