Oh, I got an advance copy of the newest Harry Potter book. Not impressed. I can't believe that JK put Harry and Hermoine together... ...and killed off Snape! Good riddance, but she'll have to come up with a new oily guy now; I can't picture the next book without one. Ron's personality change was a big relief, and her treatment of mermaids was refreshing.

I'm just teasing, of course... I never even finished the fourth book. :P Is there even going to BE a next book? I'm just a goober with a weird sense of humor...

::L:: You're silly. And it's pathetic that I knew you were joking before I clicked the cut. And yeah, there's one more book after the one coming out tomorrow. :)

LOL. Good for you for not bothering to finish the 4th! Her writing's gone to crap starting with that one, 'cause she's no longer being edited. Hence the length of the books. -.-;;

You know, I was ripped apart for even politely suggesting the same thing. Thanks for unknowingly vindicating me.

Who did that?! I'll rip them SEVERAL new ones.

I'm the daughter of a professional, published SF/Fantasy writer, I KNOW these things.

Old connections of mine, current connections of Ellen's. But they are definitely not the only Harry Potter fan that isn't keen on hearing criticisms like this. ;-)

I don't think "gone to crap" is entirely true... there are wild nuggets of awesome in 5 (I just re-read it and found it less distasteful than I did the first time I read through it... I can't remember if that's my second or third time reading it all the way through, tho). But, I do agree that if she had an editor, it could have been as good or possibly better than books 3 and 4, which are my current favorites.

Also, Miz Ellen? I was SO UPSET at first. >_< I had to make a friend (who doesn't have any desire to read the books, ever) read behind the cut to see if you said "Just kidding" as I desperately hoped you did. >_> (I didn't see the "more" part of "More spoilers behind the cut" and read, oh man did I kick myself. >_> )

Someone's already passing around a LJ icon which is a photo of what claims to be page 606 from HP:HBP with a spoiler (or hoax) which reveals a death. I'm hoping that is a hoax because it's kinda hard not to read text on an icon if you don't know it's supposed to be a spoiler.... >_<

grr! I fell for it for a moment, and I have read the book!

Honestly though, I have to disagree with those saying the writing's gone downhill. Yes, book 5 was over long and could have been chopped in half. But they were pushing for a fast street date. And she is edited, just not heavily, which frankly, from a buissness stand point I kinda understand. After all, the books'll sell no matter what so....

Anyways, book six is much tighter, if more disturbing. I still think she's one of my fav aouthors for getting into the head of a realiatic teenage boy.

XD Having read the book now: she actually did have the mermaids in there, and it kind of was a change...
