I'm just not sure what to do from here. What color should her dress be? Should I make her a red-head? Should that tree be a lot darker? Or should I leave it light? More grayish? Should the hills be greener? Ah! I hate color.

I like INK!

Take heart in the fact you're much better with colour than I am. :| I feel you on the linking of ink, though. I think I'll just do everything in ballpoint and microns from now on.

Actually I like the white. Just make the background around her have more contrast and it really stands out. That or red or orange to match the leaves.

I like her blonde, although I like very dark hair with very light skin the best :)

You could always add some orangey tones to some of the darker bits of her hair, to give it a bit more colour variation.

For the dress, I reckon it would be nice to leave the over-tunic white, but use a soft lavendary-grey to do the shading on it to give it a bit of depth and warmth.

For the underskirt, I'd make it a soft muted blue-green, or a russet red

I agree with curvature on the dress, those would marvelous colours.

Allow me to indulge in a moment of Mad Ellen Envy.

Make her dress in russet hues with deep brown accents. And the background does look like it needs to be a bit richer, unless you can bring about a feeling to the painting by making her stand out vibrantly instead. Definitely seems more autumn but everything is so green around her. Hrm...

I like the thought of fire color(s) for the dress... particularly if it's sorta gradiant. :3 Like an autumn leaf.

As for her hair - I like it the way it is, though you could always add deeper tones to it.

As for the tree.... give it more texture? It's hard to tell from the photo, though.

Choosing colors is so very hard. You have my sympathy!

My vote would be ... much darker on the tree, to contrast against the background and give an illusion of depth (leave the hills light, to fade off into the distance -- they look very nice the way they are). If you make her a redhead, it might blend into the reddish treetrunk too much; my suggestion would be leaving her hair blond. But the yellow of her hair should be reflected lightly elsewhere in the painting, or else it looks out of place. (Maybe more yellow in the leaves, or touches of sunlight on the grass. If her hair is such a bright yellow, then the sun must be shining or it would be more muted, so you can use the sunlight and shadow to add visual interest to the foreground.)

For her dress, either very light on the bodice (white with reflected colors from the environment), or a deeper shade of the hill color (muted green-blue); and the underskirt in some shade of red or brown, to reflect the leaves.

It makes it easier for me to make color decisions when I think in terms of limiting the number of colors and using only a handful of colors in various shades and tones to do all the parts of the painting. But then again, I'm sort of a novice at working with color, and limiting my colors makes it easier for me not to lose control. :D

She looks very classy in white. Aqua would be a nice contrast to her hair and the tree but might not go with the autumnal feel. Her hair looks quite reddish on my monitor but whether you stay blonde or go redder I think a touch darker on the tree trunk.
Colouring in is a fascinating process to me, see if I want a line drawing I have ta colour first then trace around so I see where the lines should go. I do pencil sketches of course but I tend to start with the shading.

I like ink too!

Since you have it on the computer you can try out different colors in your photo program first before deciding. I like the thought of a deep red dress with gold or something for the accents, but you'd probably also have to balance that out with more vibrant leaves. A little more shadow on the tree. :)

Me thinks the tree should be a wee bit darker, I like the blonde..perhaps make her dress a lovely red?

Lovely!

Ohh this is looking good! :D Here are my suggestion to place within the pot of cents. I'd try a medium brown to the tree, Hills look great as is and I think a Red or purple dress would look nice. Hmm as for hair... She looks good blonde but an aubrun may look nice too. :)

Paintshop-ing it is a good suggestion. ;)
