Date: 2006-02-10 01:45 am (UTC)You could always add some orangey tones to some of the darker bits of her hair, to give it a bit more colour variation.
For the dress, I reckon it would be nice to leave the over-tunic white, but use a soft lavendary-grey to do the shading on it to give it a bit of depth and warmth.
For the underskirt, I'd make it a soft muted blue-green, or a russet red

Date: 2006-02-10 03:36 am (UTC)As for her hair - I like it the way it is, though you could always add deeper tones to it.
As for the tree.... give it more texture? It's hard to tell from the photo, though.

Date: 2006-02-10 08:05 am (UTC)My vote would be ... much darker on the tree, to contrast against the background and give an illusion of depth (leave the hills light, to fade off into the distance -- they look very nice the way they are). If you make her a redhead, it might blend into the reddish treetrunk too much; my suggestion would be leaving her hair blond. But the yellow of her hair should be reflected lightly elsewhere in the painting, or else it looks out of place. (Maybe more yellow in the leaves, or touches of sunlight on the grass. If her hair is such a bright yellow, then the sun must be shining or it would be more muted, so you can use the sunlight and shadow to add visual interest to the foreground.)
For her dress, either very light on the bodice (white with reflected colors from the environment), or a deeper shade of the hill color (muted green-blue); and the underskirt in some shade of red or brown, to reflect the leaves.
It makes it easier for me to make color decisions when I think in terms of limiting the number of colors and using only a handful of colors in various shades and tones to do all the parts of the painting. But then again, I'm sort of a novice at working with color, and limiting my colors makes it easier for me not to lose control. :D

Date: 2006-02-10 12:32 pm (UTC)Colouring in is a fascinating process to me, see if I want a line drawing I have ta colour first then trace around so I see where the lines should go. I do pencil sketches of course but I tend to start with the shading.
I like ink too!
