It lurks...

Most days, that's all it does... just lurks. Reminds me when I lift too much, or twangs uncomfortably after sitting too long.
Somedays, it chews. Nibbles away at the base of my spine at the nerves and taps at sore spots and nags at me quietly in the background.
Somedays, it burns. Fire in a lump that is so hot it melts muscle and tissue and leaves only bone grating on bone.
Today, it only chews. Tomorrow, it threatens... tomorrow I will burn...
Time for some anti-inflams and ice, methinks.
