Ursula paints too much.

I should say, Ursula paints too much that is just amazing and unique and Cannot Possibly Left Out of her book. Sifting through her webpage is agony... I've re-categorized it mentally about three times, and can't figure out if Small Creatures Pondering Large Surreal Objects should be a section of it's own, or if the Large Surreal Objects should be organized out into their various subjects... or maybe I should organize by painting style, and where on earth do you put Holstein Irises? Do Squash Kachinas count as Weird Fruit, or are they more Anthromorphic? Do I start the book with the more 'arty art' art, or jump feet first into cute? How do I get that text to fit on that page with that art? Is it legit to scrawl those notes sideways on the page to make them fit? Does 'legit' even matter in a book of Ursula's art?

I love my job.

Holstien irises can go with the weird fruit. Squash katchinas are anthromorphic and the small creatures/large objects can be sprinkled through for flavor. Combine cute and ART - keeps the reader paying attention. Write sidewise, in circles or as a frame around pictures. Make the reader work for it!

Ursula IMHO does not paint enough. The world needs more weird fruit and other stuff that makes me squee and go 'Kawaii' while being profoundly disturbed at the same moment.

I wouldn't worry too much about 'Does X go into A or B?' For one, if it fits into either, it will always be correctly placed. For another, if people think they only like part of her œuvre (à la "I only ever like weird fruit"), they might stumble upon the things placed in other areas and find out the goodness that is her production.

Where to put the text? If you find you'll have to do 'weird things' to some of the texts, do it at least so often that it doesn't look like "Oops, I couldn't do it differently" but like "This is how it has to be".

And legit? Does the word even exist in Ursula's vocabulary? *beg*

Oh! Damn! I just remembered--the Holstein Irises have no print file, so we can't include them, all I've got is a wee jpg. The original was on an old zip disk or something, and is lost to posterity. So you don't have to worry about placing that one, at least.

But I really should paint another set...
