Yeah, cause we dress like that and carry swords around all the time in real life. Oh no, not fantasy at all.

Do you have access to Jill Johansen's LJ?

If not, I'd be happy to give you a repeat of something Elfwood-related I posted to one of her blogs the other day. It sums this up quite nicely, I think. :(

Some people cannot see the forest for the trees, methinks.

That said, the image in question is, as I have come to expect from your work, fantastic. :)

I don't think I do, no - would love to read your post!

You should be able to read it. It's not friend's locked (http://jillbamfette.livejournal.com/33807.html).

All opinions belong to their respective speakers, of course. ;)

*laughs* Yeah, they dinged this one when I first posted it, till I made up a silly story to go with. QC sometimes goes a bit overboard.

That's just very, very sad. What are they thinking over there?

....

I'm so glad I stopped being an Elfwood Mod YEARS ago. There were actually discussions of why STRIPED SOCKS shouldn't be considered fantasy ( ie a picture with them shouldn't be allowed) because something along the lines of that design was not used till later in history, or some such nonsense.

Ugh. I go there.. once a year or so now? Bah.

Gorgeous piece, by and by.

Every time an Elfwood Mod gives me that sort of rejection notice, I ask them at what point in "History" things like floating cities, magical fairies, and enchanted swords were developed, because I'd very much like to go find them in the Museum for comparison.

It doesn't often work, but it sure is cathartic. :)

*sigh*
Nothing they do surprises me anymore. Next thing you know, they'll be outlawing pointy ears because too many artists added them to "non-fantasy" artwork to get it past the mods.

A monster was created with the mod system. *facepalm*

While I did personally agree that some sort of quality control would've been nice in Elfwood, this is just taking things too far. Geez, the whole point was to keep it IN-LINE with the sword and sorcery theme.

Question is, why haven't you left Elfwood when the bulk of us already have? Elfwood is and always will be, for amateurs. ;)

I'm not sure there's a simple answer to that. Because it was my 'first?' Because I still consider myself a rank amateur? Because I feel like I owe it something? Because I'm hopelessly ideal? Because it was something I loved for a really long time, very deeply and very truly, and I want to believe that it's still the way I remember it, even if it really isn't?

I guess you can think of Elfwood like training wheels on a bike... which is how I thought of it when I made the decision to finally leave everything. After learning all that I could, I had come to the point where if I wanted to try the "fancier stuff" I had to take the training wheels off. They may have helped me feel secure, but at the same time they held me back.

A lot of what you're saying is what I used to say to myself too. Elfwood was my first community site, first time I became part of something international, I loved it, I felt like I owed it something, I felt like I could help it grow to be a great community, I felt family there and while I was sad to leave it, I knew it was for the best for me.
