Remind me not to post about politics in my journal, and not to accept new projects into the fold...

Two things you'd think I'd know by now.

Reminders for the artists and writers reading along! Submissions to EMG close on Tuesday, which is also the last day to submit work for EMG-Zine October in the theme of leaves. Autumn leaves, green leaves, take it or leaf it...

Submissions for EMG-Zine

(Remember that there are also a dozen other themes you can submit for, too! And have you checked out the calendar?! Woah!)

So far it's been actually been a lovely weekend, thanks to slow, quiet time with the husband, lots of delicious food, good weather, and watching the Empire Strikes Back (the original, not the sissy re-mastered version. On VHS, no less.). I made potatos and turnips au gratin (mm!), and a mooseloaf with onions and peppers (MM!!), and I've got homemade rolls rising now. I should maybe be working (and have plenty to do!), but the brain says no. Brain wins.

Hey, about the politics thing. I' a bit of a politics junkie and I recognize it's a whole tiring kettle of fish some folks don't want to get into in endless detail and arguments going round and round or feel forced into a corner about their choices and whatnot. So sorry I contributed to... tiresomeness in that other post.

You were fine, and very polite - and I've been thinking about the answer to your question since you asked. I haven't really come to any conclusions, alas. Abortion isn't the hot-button issue with me that it seems to be with most people; I think there's not an easy answer and that both views have valid points. I tend to vote for candidates based on my perceived value of their common sense. Do they use a lot of rhetoric or answer questions in a straight fashion? Do they bash the other candidates or stick to their own strong points? I don't watch a lot of TV and I surf away from any radio station not playing music, so most of what I get is from the candidate statements in the election guide.

I don't know if that *exactly* answers the question you were asking. I think I've got more thinking to do.

Its your journal, you have the right to post what you want! I loved seeing your post about politics.

Phoo. It's your journal. You go ahead and say what you want. I'm grown up enough to accept and listen to different peoples' opinions, whether I agree with them or not.

I should think your other readers would be that mature, or at least want to be taken as that mature.

Some of my best friendships have been made through cheerfully arguing about politics, and how can people do that if they refuse to hear any opinion but their own?

Hey, I never got the $ for the DVDs. Did you send it to the wrong place?

Woops! Thought I'd mailed that during the fair, but should have known better than to trust my faulty memory. Sent it just a moment ago.

Great! I was just worried it ended up with some random other person with my name :) Thanks!

Yup, you're kidding about not posting about politics in your own journal right? It's your journal. Remember the saying... "Those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

I know what you mean. I'm actually in the political minority on my friends list, so I usually just keep my mouth shut on things cause it's easier that way. ;) But I have to say I'm totally fascinated with Palin and it's neat to hear the POV of someone who has more familiarity with her. I definitely want to know more about her.

Mooseloaf sounds really good. Does moose taste anything like elk? Had an old roommate whose dad hunted in Wyoming and brought us a bunch of elk. I remember really liking it!

I'm not sure I've had elk. Moose isn't too gamey tasting, very mild and extremely lean. I like it a lot!

I'll echo [livejournal.com profile] telepresence - sorry if I caused offence posting in your political thread. I try to respect other's views, but sometimes I get overly-passionate about things; however, I do try to remain open to other viewpoints and reasonings.

No offense at all. I don't want to discourage people from commenting, I just... really was unprepared for it.

Sorry for derailing things so utterly :x I have a hard time not indulging in political boohooey, though I feel bad that it took place in YOUR journal.

Hi Ellen! I've never submitted to EMG Zine before, but I do have a piece for October. For me, the submission page closes out when I go to upload the image, so may I email the image and info to you or to editor at emg-zine.com?

Thanks so much! :)

Sure! Email it to me at ellen@ellenmilliongraphics.com and I'll post it for you.

Thanks!
~Ellen
