I just followed links that sent me into a serious 'everything I've ever done that I thought was creative is really a compete hack and everyone else has already done it better' tailspin.

I know I've felt that way. Its part of the reason I stopped selling my own art, I just felt it wasn't my field and I couldn't compete. It helped me to find my true passion in life though, which is design.

Anyway, you are an amazing artist with your own distinctive style and you are one of the most enterprising, hard-working business women around, so I wouldn't feel bad if I were you. I'd be damn proud to accomplish even a fraction of what you've done.

Doing something that is "creative" and never done before is severely overrated. There's always a mess of people in all of the past and in the present who have been there and done it better. Even Michaelangelo had to think about the perfection achieved by Greek and Roman sculptors centuries before he was born. So does he give up? No, he sculpts like Michaelangelo, which no one else in the past, present or future will ever be able to do.

Only you can make the art you make. No one else. If that's not enough, maybe doing something else will make you happier. There's got to be a joy in creating or we should all do something else, since it's certainly not a sure path to wealth and fame and santiy--or even just living hand-to-mouth comfortably for many of us.

Anyway, it's important to remember that you are unique--for better or worse--utterly unique! ^___^

I get like that A LOT. "Why do I even bother?"

What I hate is getting older, and the stuff I do now at 27 doesn't seem as impressive as stuff I did whern I was 19, though I am much better now. I guess part of me feels that it is more impressive to be really good really young, and I am jealous of the 20 year olds who have the awesome stuff on DA. But back in my day I didn't have photoshop...I had to do stuff the hard way, like make mistakes on original pieces of art, and if I messed up, well, Tough Sh't! And I also had to walk to school, two miles, uphill both ways, in the snow. ;D

I had a really nice conversation with a lady at work yesterday ho thought I had amazing stuff. She'd seen the Zodiac stuff I'd done (we have a gallery at work, and right now it is employee work up there).
