Better. Prettier.

Cleaning took a turn for the gorgeous today as we got the entertainment credenza assembled and the stereo equipment moved onto it. We had been using a hand-me-down kitchen cart, which was much the worse for wear and sported some truly hick 2x modification. That's now disassembled and tossed into the back of the truck for a trip to the trash. Instead, we've got something that resembles an honest-to-god living room. On a whim, we hung the raven painting above it, and it matched incredibly well. You'd think an interior designer put my living room together now. (If you politely ignore the patchy bits on the floor where we haven't painted yet...)
It makes me happy to be in such a beautiful space.
It makes me almost as happy that everything was on sale and after shopping for two days solid, this piece looks like it was custom-made for the equipment we put in it. Within a 1/4 of an inch in every direction for fitting the subwoofer and amp. Jake and I probably looked pretty laughable running around to all the stores with measuring tape in hand, circling the showrooms and comparing sketches and measurements and despairing because nothing was quite right. We've still got the wall to put up in the bedroom, and some work we want to do in the bathroom, but in general, it's been a tremendously productive several days.

(You can totally see where the painted floor ends and the old floor begins. The stack of cans in front of the woodstove is ready for the final paint job.)

And do you see??? SUNSHINE!!!
Getting prepped to put the fantasy art shop back up for ordering, and have a few portrait adoption portraits to mail as well.

Date: 2009-04-20 08:38 pm (UTC)And I adore that floor lamp. Found it at Home Depot, I think, after returning 2 or 3 cheap lamps in a row and deciding that it was worth the extra money to get something I didn't have to put back in its box 5 days later.

Date: 2009-04-20 11:00 pm (UTC)Right now I am trying to tackle cleaning up the kitchen in this apartment, my main problem is deciding where to put stuff. I spend lots of time standing around staring at stuff: "Should I put that there or there?". *LOL*
For plants what I really want to do is make a terrarium. They are soooo cute and I miss having a plant.
