I LOVED the new Star Trek movie.

Sylar/Spock was so entirely, perfectly perfect. And Kirk. And... and... my only casting gripe was Uhura (she should have been less runway model skinny and more voluptuous). I went in with lukewarm expectations and went out wanting to own it.

LOVED IT.

I walked out of it wanting to walk back in and see it again... but had to wait two more days, hehe.
It was Phwoar.

I thought Uhura was fine, since they all looked like, well, like those people would look if you cast them in 2008 instead of 1960. :)

I was just sad that they didn't get Chekov to say 'wessels' even once :(

I agree about Uhura: not for the acting, but on the same grounds. I feel extremely sketchy saying so; during the same period in which I watched the movie, I'd also been reading several posts (mostly in or linked from [livejournal.com profile] nellorat's blog) on body-image, fat-acceptance, and the idiotic and cruel (by my standards) aborted Bacardi "ugly girlfriend" ad campaign. I'd been thinking: who am I to judge? I know (am living) how much weight we can gain just in the course of aging-while-being-busy-with-other-things, and I know accidentally/involuntarily thin women, and I know both hypo- and hyperthyroid women: maybe she can't help it either.

And I still have that cognitive dissonance in my expectations! I don't know what to do with it, how to let it go and resolve it.
