A very random story...
Jun. 22nd, 2010 06:04 pmOnce, I had the waiter surprise my husband with a candle-lit dessert on his birthday. We were traveling... somewhere. Edmonton? Canada somewhere, I think, and we went from our cheap hotel down the block to the not-cheap hotel for dinner. I told Jake I was using the ladies room and snuck over to the hostess counter, where I explained the occasion. We had only just ordered our dinner, when a trail of waiters marched past our table to some unsuspecting couple across the restaurant singing happy birthday.
'It's not my birthday!' the poor man protested.
Confused waiters milled.
I had to flag them down and explain that it was for Jake - spoiled the surprise, but twice or three times as many laughs.
Sometimes, the oddest things well up in your memory.
