Seven trees so far...

We've taken down seven trees, and four others came down on their own. We're taking a panting break to refuel and dry out a little (it's STILL raining!) and then we'll go back and take down another four or five of the worst trees. These are just the ones endangering our house and driveway - the forest around us is filled with broken and leaning birch trees. One of the trees we took down this morning had folded over so far it was touching the ground.

It's pretty, and a weird, surreal kind of foggy. I am tired and sad to see some of these trees go, but oddly happy with this turn of events. I like being stuck home, and we've got plenty of wood, food and entertainment.

You know, the mental picture you just painted really made me envious. Big woods, ice storm, lack of power, but you're cozy and safe with someone you love and your animals, food, things to cuddle up together and watch.... sounds like paradise to me.
