YES to braid taper! Once I figured that out, my braids became about 100 times more realistic, and it's such a basic and straight-forward concept! (Though of course, you have to make exceptions for Rapunzel or you'd be down to single-strand by the bottom of the tower...)

I believe there are photos up on my LJ of me in costume and my braid. It is getting to be as long as I remember my heir being a few years ago.
