I have done some writing and some sketching, and am having fun with both.

Kin and Ink is an 1825 word story that spins off of Deirdre's The Butterfly Girl and its sequel (not yet published), A High, Strange Home. It was prompted and sponsored by padparadscha.



Skycats are like a cross between flying squirrels and cat, able to glide long distances and prone to climbing up in things. Skycat kittens needed to be drawn...

Then I sat down to write about a vacation to kelkyag's prompt. I got about 1000 words and an outline into City of Lights 3, a discussion between Emeroma and Dramanar about anomalies, riots and vacations. It needs some percolation, however, so I'm setting it aside for a little bit. There are good seeds here, but I'm missing a part, I think. *pokes*

vaerys's request to see an everyday scene for a domestic turned into Making Flames, 750 words, the story of a hearth-tender mentioned in one of Elizabeth's stories playing matchmaker as a prequel to Lorna Cowie's Band of Ivory. Sponsor for $7.50

Do you have to have your work completed before noon or can you mention you are working on a prompt and finish it later this week?

Finishing later is no problem at all! Sometimes folks come back and use prompts a day or two later, even. We just close for new prompts at noon, and *most* of us wrap things up about then. It's pretty flexible!

I've been looking for a while now and trying to figure out which one of the characters to adopt. It is a hard choice, but I've narrowed it down.

Adopted characters are more easily supported with material about the character or with karma than with money. Or do you mean budgeting time?

I'll have to re-read myself, but I believe ~3 submissions per year featuring the character will support an adoption. Karma's also an option. Money only applies indirectly.

Oh! To clarify:

Adoptions cost 40 karma points and secure the character for 3 months while you get to know them. After that, you can keep them by submitting work for them (or sponsoring work that features them). Any piece of work will give you 6 months of worry-free ownership. Additional work extends your ownership by 2 months, up to a year.

So two items in a calendar year keeps a character and earns you karma, OR you can PAY 100 karma to keep them safe for 6 months.

You get a bonus free adoption without needing to submit any work with any paid subscription, for the length of your subscription.

It's a little bit of a complex system, balancing our desire to see characters adopted while keeping them from being 'sat on' and not used.
