It's amazing how much more affectionate the cat is when the woodstove isn't on. Gee, nice to know I'm good for generating warmth, Velcro.

Another balmy day near freezing, and I'm struggling to keep focused. I've got some programming things to do, taxes, and orders, plus some clothing-sorting, and mostly I want to stare into space. Blargh.

I've discovered that I can accurately tell the temperature of the house by the number of cats on the bed at night.

Heh, we joke about our "dogometer", which is represented by the position of the sleeping dog (we have a very fluffy dog with lots of underfur). In a warm house, the dogometer is spread out flat on the living-room floor; as the house gets chillier, he gets more tightly curled up. *g*

Cats work pretty well that way, too. If laid on their backs with the entire fuzzy belly exposed, it's too hot in the house.

I once lived in a house loaded with cats. It was warm and comforting to wake up with cats all over me, even though I was darn stiff in the morning with all that weight holding my joints in place all night.

They never really appreciated me having to get up and do things, because it meant I had to dump several cats off my legs and blanket.

I do the staring into space thing a lot... Mainly when I am tired and need to do stuff, but am too tired to do the stuff so I can get to bed.
