ellenmillion: (Are You Sure?)

I've got a pot of water on the woodstove, which brought our humidity in the living room up to about 16%... but I'm sure that the bedroom is still probably single-digit, and my lungs are feeling it! Our trip to humid climates spoiled me! So, I'm on the hunt for two room-size humidifiers. For Guppy, a nightlight is fine. For us, no light is better. Do you have one you love? Something sturdy preferred - a stunning amount of reviews on Amazon say 'broke after one month.' This will undoubtedly get a lot of continuous use.

We had a Vicks humidifier at one point...and then another one which I can't recall the name of. I made Sandy take it out of the bedroom because the humidity was where all my art and books were. Didn't like that at all!

When in Montana, we used a big Honeywell like this one. It pretty much took care of our entire downstairs. We used it for years without any trouble. http://www.amazon.com/Honeywell-QuietCare-Humidifier-Technology-HCM-6009/dp/B000G0LDRI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1420669174&sr=8-4&keywords=humidifier

I recommend the cool mist humidifier, btw. It puts less crap from the water into the air.

We use this Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifier, and it has worked really well for us... we've had it over a year so far, but we only pull it out when someone has a cold.

I do have to maintain it pretty well; the water needs to be changed daily, and the inside wiped down; it requires a water filter (especially here; our water is SUPER hard), and every week it is in use I give it a water-&-vinegar treatment to take care of hard water deposits and discourage mold and bacteria. But with that maintenance, it works pretty well. I've been happy with it.

Sorry -- it doesn't require a filter; it requires a demineralization cartridge. A little different.

For my bedroom, I have a CPAP machine tuned to very humid. (Not much use for you, I know.) For the house, I've found that having fish tanks helps a surprising amount, though I have to keep adding water to the tanks.

Sorry I'm not more helpful1!
