I am playing with my new markers, gleefully, and updating a lot of my older portraits at Portrait Adoption, for a double-whammy.

My offer to you: dictate the color choices for one of these portraits. You are under absolutely no obligation to adopt the final product, though you will have first chance at it if you desire.

All you have to do is tell me what colors I should use! Anything goes - I'm willing to try bright blue hair or silver eyes. I think I have puce here somewhere if you really want me to use it.

It's first come, first served. These are the first eight that I'd like to tackle, just pick a portrait number and tell me how to proceed. I can't promise they'll be done super fast, but I'd like to be finished by the end of February.

My pleasure! Did you have features in mind for each of those colors? And to clarify, you do mean the one below the number 2326? (It occurs to me looking over this that it might not have been obvious.)

Sorry, I was typing from my phone! :) I was planning to leave the coloring up to you, but I do think the hair would be nice silver/gray. :) I think the numbering was clear; that's the one I meant!

Oh! I'm looking forward to doing this. :)

I'm not sure I really got 'brown' on the skin - skintones are super challenging. Here she is in color! You have first dibs if you want her, at $5 web adoption, or $7.50 for the original. (It's a color of a print of the linework, so, er... half original.)

(No obligation, of course!)

I think there's a definite brown thing happening. :) She's taken on an even more elfin quality, I think! I'll let someone else have her; I'm don't need any portraits right now. :)

1357: Science Master indigo vest over something trendy for the shirt, maybe a dark gold silk?, classic Mayaloi hair/eyes/skin. ETA: a stone to match her eyes in the brooch, maybe a dark opal?

ETA again: Buh. Indigo's just Scientist, Science Master is purple? I should really look these things up before posting.

Oh, a challenge!!

I thought maybe it could be Kalaida, from [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith's new story: http://ysabetwordsmith.livejournal.com/3551297.html

But it says 'young scientist,' so likely not a Science Master. (I have to double-check the colors almost every time, too...)

Yes...

Sure, it looks like a match for Kalaida. She is probably in her early 20s, so Junior in science with bright blue robes.

We might push it to 28 and Scientist in indigo, but that's probably older than most people would say "young scientist" for and almost certainly older than the air of innocent that had Kalaida surprised at someone paying attention to her.

Unless maybe it's dead standard local fashion, nobody wearing an outfit with a cleavage window like the one in the portrait would be surprised at attracting flirtatious attention.

Well...

Have you ever been around serious ivory tower types? My high school prom was a flustercluck because a bunch of us dressed out who never did, and most didn't know how to handle it coming or going. Not to mention the two lesbians, the boy in the very smart smoking jacket, and the overall low level of social skills in general.

And I saw more of that in college. It keeps going if you habitually dress in ways and frequent places that play down your sexuality. When you don't think of sex things very often, and you are mostly around other people who have their heads in a book or a beaker, it's very easy to grab clothes you happen to like or that somebody told you were appropriate, and have no ever-living idea what message they send.

I can only imagine this is worse in the Empire because they have a lot more scientists and thus a lot more science-territory for them to hole up in.

Kallaida has an abstract grasp of sex, beauty, and fashion. She just doesn't usually pay a lot of attention to it, and suddenly she's not in a school or a lab but on a cruise ship where those are major topics. The idea that she's sexy enough to stand out in a crowd is new enough to her that it's still startling.

Yes. And while the odds of poor social skills because they were paying attention to other things while they were teenagers go up, bright college age folks (or, say, assistants training towards scientist) can be plenty hormonal -- and suddenly being around a whole lot of people who are interested in the same things they are -- or at least obsessively interested in things like they are -- compounds it. Suddenly many of the people around you are *interesting to talk to*.

Sure, there are people who are late bloomers, or never going to be interested, or are actively suppressing their sex drives for one reason or another. But a whole lot of people around that age are busy discovering that sometimes people *are* fascinating.

I was thinking Ityaashev, the professor Gliiveran studies under (http://www.tornworld.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=223). But even purple would be younger than she was when Gliiveran meets her, and that's all way out of date. I'm not up on the current threads!

1363 reminds me of Ororo Munroe. I think her hair should stay white and her skin should be a rich deep purple and her clothes should be royal blue picked out in silver. Her earring should be silver with skin-purple gems, or maybe a bluer purple on the gems.

What color for the eyes?

Oooh. I think deep blue, but I'm also thinking silver! I can't choose!

I went with silvery blue. :) Here's the final color! I don't have many markers in the purple range, so this was very difficult. Your first-chance price is $15 for the original!

Otherwise, she will go up for adoption, just let me know. :)

2325 - wine red hair, medium brown skin, dark brown eyes.

Consider a coloring book of these headshots - the ones with the dark bold inking make me want to try coloring them.

I loved doing the wine red hair! The medium brown skin was a challenge to me but I want to do more.

You have first dibs on him. $5 for web adoption, $7.50 to send this original to you. (The original has a little bit of noise in the background and is quite tiny - and I printed the linework to color, so it's actually only half original. :)) There is no obligation, of course!

could go many different ways...pastels, like pink for the rose lips and corset, light blonde hair, light blue for the shoulder part of the dress and skirt...or the shoulder part could stay while...violet or blue eyes

Or, blonde with red rose, lips and corset ( I like dark reds, but that might be a bit too dark), *peers* are those ivy leaves on the corset? Hmm...white around the shoulders, and green skirt...
Not sure about the color for the background, was thinking a light blue ( which might make for difficulty with the blue dress shoulder thing option, unless that is a darker blue and the background is lighter...), or you could drop in W/C green on wet paper...

Hmmm...it might require Photoshop coloring to see how things would look before really coloring, unless one of those combos catches your fancy.. :)
Or something totally different, green eyes (or golden), fire engine-ish red hair & lips, yellow rose and corset, light(or medium or dark...depending on how the rest looks) green skirt, white around the shoulder dress bit...

Such a pretty picture. :)
