Tablet?

Okay, worked off my careless-submittor ire, got some PA pieces up (one of mine, even!), and now I'm one half hour from getting the rest of the day off to go work on the webpage. (And mail some minor stuff...)

I got the router to work last night (thanks for the offer, Ciri! it was half operator error, half ecelectic Alaska DSL settings) and I LUV my new laptop. Oh, baby. It's fast, it's clean, I love it six ways to Tuesday. Photoshop 7 is successfully installed, and if I could get the stupid FTP program to work, we'd all be golden.

But! The little touchpad thing is a little restrictive. So I think to myself, get a mouse. Then I think to myself... why a mouse? Why not a little wireless tablet that will do mouse functions AND let me digitally color?

They have here at 2 Geeks an under $100 (It was either $45 or $68, I was pricing a bunch of things, and now I don't remember which was which...) True-touch (I think?) 6 x 8 wireless tablet. I asked about quality, they said it wasn't the super-precise Wacom tablet, but it was serviceable. And I could buy it on the way home tonight... *glee*

Anyone heard horrid things? Hold out for Wacom? Shop online and be patient? I will probably eventually get the Intuous that costs a buttload and will do everything, but is this a decent mouse-replacement/drawing tablet? Advise me, wise Friends!

I've never heard of it, unfortunately. Did they say which Wacom it's less precise than? Less precise than an Intuos isn't bad, but less precise than a Graphire isn't going to be of much use at all.

I'm a die-hard Wacom devotee. I had a few cheapo brands before I finally spend the money for my Intuos, and there's no comparing the two. I'd go for a Graphire in your case as they're cheaper (the 6x8 is under $100 I believe). I'm just very mistrusting of other brands. . .the ones I tried before lasted maybe 6-10 months. I've had this Wacom for near four years, and it's been totted from here to California and back and still works flawlessly. ^_^

Doh - just thought I'd mention I'm not sure how much wireless Graphires go for. ^_^;

I'm with Mersades on this one, Wacom all the way *grin* Nothing else compares or even has the touch and sensitivity, and believe me once you've tried them you'd never go back..

If the True Touch is like a Wacom Graphire, then cool, if it's less than that, don't get it!

Go to www.wacom.com to look up specs about the Graphire and Intuous. Also if you are worried about size, a 4x5 Graphire is fab, people worry about it's small size, it maps to full screen, I haven't had any worries at all! :)

Perhaps you could try eBay to see if there are any bargains out there... people have picked up some good priced tablets that way!

Not much help as I don't know True Touch at all, they may be great?! :P
