Hmm... it depends a lot on the type of keyboard, but you might be able to put it in the dishwasher, believe it or not. Just don't set it to heated dry... and it'll take about five days to air dry.

Or you could try this method: http://www.elektrik-sheep.com/guides/keyboard/cleankeyboard.shtml

It's a pain, but you can probably get most of that soda gunk out of there. Good luck! :/ And no more drinking soda near the keyboard! :|

Any tips on cleaning keyboards? You spilled soda on it and now it won't type half of the characters any more, including the spacebar...And if we can read this at all then you'll be really impressed. And the timing of it just kills you.

I'm so proud for me. And sorry for you...I've spilled cappuccino and fried the keyboard many atime. And I tried cleaning all the individual keys and inside everything and it was still f$*@ed up. And by the way my "t" key and occasionally my "n" key sticks so I type like a retard on a normal basis.

*HUGS TO YOU M'DEAR!!!!* You're lucks almost as good as mine. O.o

... You know, I've asked our IT staff about this (I didn't spill soda on mine, but a whole swath of keys stopped working, including i, k, l, and the hard return) and they said it's a wash, and just ordered me a new one. They didn't think it was worth trying to fix.

I'd agree, this is interesting timing for you.

This has happened at work several times.

It was suggested to Carl he buy plastic covers for the key boards but he says they are more expensive than the keyboards.

You can get a basic keyboard for about three pounds here which would be nearly two dollars in your money.

Of course if you have an ergonomic keyboard that about forty pounds, mine got fried in a thunderstorm and I haven't been able to replace it yet. I've a coupla spare flat ones, If the postage didn't cost more than the keyboard I'd send you one.

Okay I know you've got it working now, but here's what to do next time to clean your keyboard. We do ours regularly as ours tends to get food crums and the occasional drink spillage! We keep a pic of our keyboard setup so we know where they keys fit first. Then we have a special screwdriver adjusted for the sole purpose of flicking the keys off.
Put all the keys into a bowl of warm soapy water and get an old toothbrush and clean them. On your now empty keyboard, get some old paint brushes and clean it all out, or if you have one of those nifty keyboard vacs that'd be good, or some cloths to get the gunk out. Put all the clean keys on a towel to drain, then blow dry them carefully(not madly all across the floor)to get all the water out. Now put the keyboard all back together as per the pic, or diagram and all should be good!

Squeaky clean! :D

Hope that helps for another time! :)

*giggles* I'm flashing back to my infamous snvcl days. Um. Anyway, the next time this happens, download and use this--it eats RAM, and it's not very convenient, but it's better than typing stuff like the above.
