There are 3 things I'd like to see LJ do differently, but I want to make sure I'm not missing a setting somewhere before I go make them to actual LJ staff...

1) Put a login header on friends pages, or a 'hi Ellen' message. You can't tell if you're logged in or not from that page.

2) Don't un-screen comments when you reply to them! I hate hate hate that! When I screen comments, it's so that people feel free to post private information. I hate that it becomes public if I have something to say in return. I always re-screen them, of course, but what a pain. The default is all backwards.

3) When browsing by next/previous entry - skip private/filtered/friendslocked entries. Don't tell me that I can't read that entry and give me no way to browse past it! I don't even want to KNOW that there's a private entry there - it's kind of invasive.

I don't think there are any existing ways to get around these. I agree with all three points - particularly the third one.

I've never had an issue with 2 and 3, because I don't screen comments and usually don't go entry by entry. I agree with all of them though, especially 1, because I've gotten far back in my friends page reading before realizing I was never logged in and have to start over. Augh.

1) You can modify your style to include an element that tells you if you're logged in. For example, I have a component that shows the login box when the viewer is not logged in, and I could set it to say "hi! you're logged in!" if I wanted to, while the viewer is logged in.

For all three of these, [livejournal.com profile] suggestions is the place to go. These are all currently intended behavior, not bugs. Perhaps you already knew that but anyway. :) I'm almost certain that both 2&3 have been suggested and discussed before there... somewhere.

I've never really had a problem with your first point, but occasionally, I do forget to log back in, such as when my sister has visited and was using my computer, but it's generally not a big deal for me. Neither is the 3rd point, really, because I don't do a whole lot of browsing by entry. I do agree with what you said about, however. If something is a private entry, or filtered for any reason, I'd rather not know than be told HEY! YOU CAN'T READ THIS. :) Especially if it keeps you from continuing to browse. ^^;

The second point, though, is something that I can completely and totally identify with now. I run a contest community, and I regularly screen comments to posts for submissions and voting, because that's the easiest way to do it...if I need to reply to a comment, it's a hassle trying to go back and re-screen it. I think the default should be to keep it screened, and give us the option to unscreen it. After all, if we were screening in the first place, doesn't that just make more sense?

Have to agree, especially the third one which I often use when browsing comunities with lots of comments, easier than in and out of the journal constantly.

Oh and Ellen, in the last batch of images you put up on EMG "Sleipnir on All Fours by Johanna Iso-Järvenpää" is showing only as a red x.
