It's done.
Aug. 15th, 2006 09:58 amI've resigned from the Fairy Court. Next time, listen to the gut - before it costs so much. Quite a lot of relief, there! Just glad to have that decision behind me.
Lots of PA errors fixed last night, and I'm working on the calendar now. My studio is almost cleaned - just need to get a few orders out and scoop the catbox. Which is good, 'cause I need an easy-on-Ellen day.
I'm taking Friday off, it's our anniversary! Our 'big' plans are to take Norway swimming and sleep in. We may also do dinner and movie, and there have been discussions of Wolf Run for dessert. Five years! Five wonderful, exciting, adventure-filled years! Actually, many more than that, but five 'official' ones. We sat down a few weeks back and made a list of our favorite memories - filled the front and back of a page and kept thinking of more... 'breaking' into the hostel in Sweden and fleeing in fear to the border of Norway. Skipping rocks on a lake near the border. Jukas Jarvi, the ice hotel, playing axis and allies, learning to play chess, walking on our land, buying our land. Getting Velcro! Camping at Chatanika. Blinking tail lights! So many, many wonderful memories. :)
Now, calendar ho.

Date: 2006-08-16 07:31 am (UTC)So, it's me, my husband-to-be (Alaskans), a girl from New York, and three Aussies in a rented van headed for the Lofoten islands. We're foregin exchange students at Lulea, and Lulea has this... dorm/hostel thing up in the mountains that students can use for free or really, really cheap. You get a combo for the door from the student office before you go.
Well, we weren't supposed to technically be there - the guy with the combo had the combo from the *previous* semester, not the current one. It's about midnight (but light, because we're up close to the arctic circle and it's late spring), and the guys are trying to get any pattern of numbers to open the door. No luck. Still no luck. Finally they decide to jimmy the lock, and just as my talented husband gets a bar in there and is really making some headway, we discover that there are caretakers for this place. We discover this because they open the door.
Fortunately, Jake has talked himself out of tighter places, and we all looked like clean, upstanding students (if thoroughly stupid foreigners...) - we explain that we couldn't remember the combo (conveniently leaving out the bit about it being out of date). They mostly believe us, but aren't willing to let us in. We left in giggling fear that they were going to call the police and chase us to the border. Not much of a risk of that, of course - it was really deserted and, what did we really do? Still, we ended up driving all the way to Norway that night. It was fun - still makes me grin!

Date: 2006-08-16 12:53 pm (UTC)It is one of the dreams on my son's life to visit the Ice Hotel some day. He is very much not a warm weather person and even in our pallid English summers whinges every year that he wants to go and live in Iceland.
