I'm usually silly an buy a nice calendar for the art and a cheap dollar store one to actually write in. But as long as I can write a couple things in the box for each day it's good.

Well, if it is a one color background that is light you can write on it anyways, and it'll flow better.

I sometime mark an important date, but only with maybe one word to remind me to look in my diary. I do the detailed writing in my diary but I might want room to put say "calendar deadline" in a date box.
