Sep. 23rd, 2008 10:52 amI just got a door-to-door visit from... um, I'm not sure which religion. *flips through literature* Ah! Jehovah's Witnesses. They're less up front about who they're with these days, I think. Their name is only in one tiny place on the back page. Anyway, it sure shows dedication to make it to OUR door, so I heard 'em out for a bit, explained that yes, I've read the Bible a few times, I think the kingdom is about being good to each other and Jesus is more metaphorical than physical, took their book and thanked them politely. They were equally polite and not as pushy as I expected.
It makes me uncomfortable to talk to strangers about religion, and strangers who feel its appropriate to come to someones home and ask leading questions about religion? That seems forward to me. I find the topic interesting, but it's like politics - you don't really talk about it with people until you're a little comfortable with them.
My banana bread turned out WONDERFULLY. Thank you all for the banana advice. :)

Date: 2008-09-23 07:27 pm (UTC)I have fun with the religious people. If you come to my door to preach to me, don't expect a civil debate. >:>

Date: 2008-09-24 12:27 am (UTC)OTOH, there's a local JW church/group here that apparently picks random people out of the phone book to send literature to. My wife and I have both got several hand-written letters, personally addressed to us, along with tracts. But they don't include any phone numbers or contact info, so it's kind of an odd version of "missionary work"...

Date: 2008-09-24 02:57 am (UTC)"Hello there, we'd like to show you this lovely magazine", and out comes The Watchtower. What kind of an intro is that? Ppht.
My sister and her half of the family are all JW's, so let's just say I saw it coming, and fended it off without being TOO impolite.
:D
