I just got a door-to-door visit from... um, I'm not sure which religion. *flips through literature* Ah! Jehovah's Witnesses. They're less up front about who they're with these days, I think. Their name is only in one tiny place on the back page. Anyway, it sure shows dedication to make it to OUR door, so I heard 'em out for a bit, explained that yes, I've read the Bible a few times, I think the kingdom is about being good to each other and Jesus is more metaphorical than physical, took their book and thanked them politely. They were equally polite and not as pushy as I expected.

It makes me uncomfortable to talk to strangers about religion, and strangers who feel its appropriate to come to someones home and ask leading questions about religion? That seems forward to me. I find the topic interesting, but it's like politics - you don't really talk about it with people until you're a little comfortable with them.

My banana bread turned out WONDERFULLY. Thank you all for the banana advice. :)

Man, wish I could have some! Banana Bread sounds great right now. ;>

I have fun with the religious people. If you come to my door to preach to me, don't expect a civil debate. >:>

They might be back. I've had some that keep coming...the same people. And from the first visit, I told them that my faith is very important to me and that I'm heavily involved in my church, etc., and they were like, "Good! Good!" And yet, at least once a month, my doorbell rings (and I've got these long windows on either side, so it's easy for them to see that I'm home!).

Luckily I don't get any of that here but I keep hearing of people ordering things on ebay and getting religious literature in their packages. I don't know how people don't understand that is innapropriate.

I've always been vaguely impressed by the JWs in Fairbanks, considering how far into the woods they'll go to reach people. I know Bill (Benbow) has had them where he lives (way out off Gilmore Trail), so they're nothing if not determined. :)

OTOH, there's a local JW church/group here that apparently picks random people out of the phone book to send literature to. My wife and I have both got several hand-written letters, personally addressed to us, along with tracts. But they don't include any phone numbers or contact info, so it's kind of an odd version of "missionary work"...

How odd, I got my first visit from the JW's (at this house) yesterday.
"Hello there, we'd like to show you this lovely magazine", and out comes The Watchtower. What kind of an intro is that? Ppht.

My sister and her half of the family are all JW's, so let's just say I saw it coming, and fended it off without being TOO impolite.

:D

A lot of Jen's extended family in Seattle are JW's. Apparently they now take classes and seminars in not being pains-in-the-arse about spreading their version of the good news. And I totally stumped Jen's grandma: I got no religion, so she's not quite sure what to try and convert me +from+.
