ellenmillion: Working hard. (A mammoth pushing a rock up a hill...) (mammoth)
I got a bug up my butt to completely overhaul my webpage...and managed to complete the task in two (highly interrupted) days. Not shabby, and now it looks considerably cleaner and you can actually browse it on a mobile.

Ellen's personal site

I did take down all of the short stories and non-fiction that I had up...it was all sadly dated and some of them had problematic formatting errors. I may put some of it back if there were any articles or stories you particularly liked, but it's sort of the end of an era. Or maybe, the start of a new one?

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos! I'm behind a month, so this all happened in August, not last month!

Today, we got SNOW.

It was a stay at home day, which was nice because everyone always forgets how to drive the first day of snow, and Guppy wasn't feeling very good, but had a quiet day to recover. We had a crackling fire and I did some laundry and we made a Halloween wreatch from a craft kit. We watched Incredibles, and I snuck in an episode of the Flash while she was napping. I did a lot of artwork that I feel tremendously good about today, and wrote a hard email that I feel was appreciated and also programmed a fab new toy to play with at Portrait Adoption:

http://portraitadoption.com/novelgenerator.php

The idea occurred to me a few days ago, while I was noodling around with things, and it turned out to be relatively simple to write up. I would still like to make a button to share it on social media, and possibly also save your results, but I'm not quite sure how to make that happen. I have a few ideas I could poke at if it's something people decide they want.

THere's also a new sampler page up at EMG, for the Wild Teas of Alaska: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbook.php?id=75

Guppy was feeling enough better at the end of the day to walk up the driveway with me. She was all smiles and glee until I wanted to take her photo, of course.

Looking ahead! I have a few things on the calendar to share with you!

October 30 I will be at Sipping Streams from 1-4 for a fabulous coloring party! Tea, finger food (OMG, so good), a face-painter, free pages, and a chance to use my own high end coloring tools. Don't miss it!

Nov 5-6 I will be at the UWA holiday bazaar, sharing a table with [livejournal.com profile] laylalawlor. I will have painted ornaments and any coloring books that I personally am in.

Nov 11-12 I will be at PopCon at UAF. As time allows, I will be doing on-the-spot commissions of ornaments and sketches.

Nov 18-20 is Sketch Fest #81!

I'm also ruminating something fun and Sketch Fest related for Black Friday...

In the category of 'not what I'd planned to do today,' I upgraded the PA site with a rather cool new feature: if you are logged in, overview pages will show you which pieces are already on your wishlist - and allow you to add new ones without having to go into the portrait page and interrupt your browsing. It's pretty awesome. http://portraitadoption.com/

(Also, there are new portraits!)

Someone asked if it was possible, and I didn't know, so I poked, and lo! It was!

(This is how most of my site upgrades happen, to be honest... :))

A bit of a headache today, crossing fingers it fades and I'll have MORE ART to share tomorrow.

Oh my GOODNESS.

I sat down today to figure out how much of a headache doing what I wanted to the coloring book order page was going to be. I figured it was going to be a monster problem; it was learning new skillsets, and there were a whole lot of ricky-ticky uploads that were going to have to be done to get it all updated - and I knew that the structure I was working with was a little questionable to begin with. I thought it might take a few days, if I could solve the problems at all, and just planned to poke a little and try to get a sense of the workload so I could prioritize my to-do list and break it into parts.

And, being SUPER WOMAN (today, at least), I did the whole thing.

Each coloring book now has a full pop-up gallery, with the page previews and sampler page preview (if it has one) and a bunch of colored samples and whatever else I had lying around that applied. I sorted through about a hundred, maybe a hundred and a half, various images, and gave the coloring book admin page a bit of a facelift while I was at it, and solved a few problems that had been bugging me, and BAM. http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbooks.php

(It doesn't look different from that page, but click on any of the coloring books and marvel! Fishtank Fantasies is particularly impressive.)

If you have colored versions of your own, I'd love to include them in our galleries! Just PM or email them to me in the usual ways.

I still need to redo the landing page of EMG proper, but that is a big weight off my shoulders.

This weekend I also got a GREAT start on two art pieces that aren't due for a long while, and I... uh... may have a First Friday show THIS Friday that I am pinch-hitting for. (Fortunately, I have a show in a box, basically ready to hang at the drop of a hat.) I may not attend the official event in person, things depending. More details as they develop.

In other news, locals, you can now find the Wildflowers of Alaska coloring book in the Bear Gallery! (Upstairs in the round building at Alaskaland. Er, Pioneer Park.)

Now I'm off to fry up some leftover bread pudding for Guppy and I, and then start making au gratin potatoes for dinner. It is a rainy, gloomy day, and I will be glad to get up from the computer for a bit.

It was a state holiday, so the husband distracted the child for a few spells and I got Actual Work done. Among the things accomplished, I have Trying on Treasure available at Etsy now: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ellenmillion You can take 15% off anything on Etsy using: SPRING15.

We also have an actual, real bathroom sink! One in which water turns on with a faucet, and flows down a drain! For REALS! I am super excited about this.

I also redid the coloring book page in a pretty major way: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbooks.php

There are still some improvements I'd like to make, but those were more involved yet, and I figured this was a good first stopping point. You may note that several titles have Out of Print next to them. I did a rough tally on sales of some of them, and these were the most dire. Stock of some is quite low, so if you would like them, grab them now. (Or tell me to hold them for you, if you plan on backing the Kickstarter!) Several others are at risk; the Kickstarter will dictate whether they are archived, or put back into print.

That's the other thing I worked on this weekend: the Kickstarter! I am super excited about this one, and I've got most of the framework in place. I still need to make pretty and write some more content, but since I still need to do covers for the books I plan on doing, that's going to be put off a little bit. I'm planning to film some bits of the video on Thursday. (But I need a superhero shirt and cape before then!)

I also worked a little on this!

I hope everyone had a wonderful, happy Easter weekend.

So much awesome today!

It was preschool day, and that went swimmingly. I left feeling a bit anxious, with 8 or 10 clingy 'one more hug and kisses!', but came back to a glowing report of great behavior and lots of smiles and happy excitement about what she got to do today... and other moms and dads smiled and said it was nice to see us again and I didn't feel like they were just being polite! I am on the shy side of social, and usually go away from conversations thinking back over all the stupid things I said, and all the clever/socially acceptable things I should have said, and generally feeling like a foolish oaf, so it's nice to think I may actually be making friends despite myself. <3

Posing with a shoe. On the cat cylinder. For some reason.

I also got another 900ish words on my story, packed up two orders, did a big shopping trip, picked up mail from the post office, designed and ordered new promotional postcards, started laundry (about to move them to the dryer), and cleaned up the house.

In business-y things, I am upgrading the coloring book order page, significantly. I just have too many titles to list them all full-sized on one bloated page anymore. Here's a non-official look at one of the pages I'm closing in on: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbook.php?id=66

Now I'm doing the last of my Amazon restock (wait until I share photos of that!), and then there will be post-nap ice cream.
ellenmillion: (aahhhhhh)
Happy new year! I am back from my vacation, which was partly just an escape from business and social media (much needed!), and partly an actual-factual escape to sunlight and warmer climes - we spent some of the time in Hawaii! None of us had ever been there, and we can't wait to go back. Guppy is a fabulous traveler.

Now I'm back at my desk adulting again - and I've got lots to catch up on.

I have already unrolled a Sketch Fest improvement that should be pretty major - the prompts page has been streamlined SIGNIFICANTLY, and now loads a literal 30 times faster. *polishes knuckles* Sketch Fest #71 is NEXT weekend - we've got a Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1639152869681450/

I got my trashy novella all formatted for publication (it feels like that took as long as actually writing the darn thing...), and have started on my next.

Coloring books are back up for order - I nearly sold out of my fulfilled by Amazon selection while I was away, which was lovely, so I'll need to stock them again. (But it's always cheaper/better to buy them through my webpage, of course: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/coloringbooks.php )

Now, we're back in the cold and dark (OMG, the dark. It's almost painfully dark.) and going outside to play on sleds at 8 degrees.

(I've missed you guys! I hope you had a fabulous time while I was away! Let me know if anything momentous happened while I was out!)
