We watched How to Train Your Dragon three times yesterday. I am not usually a TV-all-day Mom, but when little snuffly-Guppigus looks at me with those big eyes and asks super politely, "Can we pwease watch How to Dwagon again?" in her super stuffed-up voice I melt like a snowball on a hotplate. And this is an awesome movie. I'm not actually sick of it yet.

"Where's Moss?" she asks.

I've figured out who she means by this. "You mean Astrid?"

"Yeah! Mustard!"

The first time she saw Toothless, she said with glee, "It's kitty! A kitty cat!"

"It's a dragon," I elaborate.

"A kittycat dragon!" And that is what Toothless has been, ever since. When we went out for our walk in the snow, she wanted to find her kittycat dragon. "He's my friend!" she explained.

She woke up this morning about 4 AM; I could barely hear her congested plea for help. She was miserable enough to ask for nosedrops, which she HATES. I spent the rest of the night very restlessly, because I kept thinking I heard her crying. I'm going to set up her monitor again tonight, I think.

And little snuffleface is up now, so I'm off. Probably to watch 'How to Dragon' again.

Have you missed some of my creative updates over the last month? I'm doing monthly roundups to try to keep some sense in the chaos!

My big November goal, because I wasn't nuts enough to try NaNoWriMo, was to complete 30 pieces of short fiction or meta-fiction for Torn World. I made it with time to spare! It was a busy month (surprise), with a few holidays, a brief and mild headcold, and some fun social things. I did PopCon, which was a very pleasant surprise, and did an interview for the Sun Star (which won't be out for months!). Oh, and I fulfilled my entire Kickstarter project!

Artwork

I did an astonishing four pieces for Portrait Adoption. I am now one away from my goal of 6 for the year.

Evervale and Shaper's Nightmare went up at River Twine. (ElfQuest fanart)

Five pieces that I did for InkTober were posted at Torn World: Fleita and Arremina, Squiggle Mouse, Weed-Eater, Deathfin, and (Tiny) Giant Sea Turtle. Also, Nerveleaf, and two Geographic Sciencecards: The Scenic North and Mojeveterk.

Writing

Smaller is a flashfiction reserved for subscribers at Torn World. ($5 to sponsor)

Scheming a Friendship was written for Thimbleful Thursday. (Also Torn World)

Bai Knows Better is a mirror poem to Ressa Knows - both are reserved for subscribers at Torn World (they can be sponsored for $5 apiece). Patreon patrons got a copy of both of these.

Give Up the Ghost was also a Thimbleful Thursday, set in none of my established worlds... but it's a tempting setting.

The Thornwall at River Twine (ElfQuest fanfiction).

Other

I shared a table at PopCon, which was great fun and quite successful.

I fulfilled my entire Kickstarter! WOO! The comments I've gotten from happy recipients are absolutely wonderful.

I updated my Amazon store, and my Etsy store.

I made my 30/30 NotNoWriMo goal.

My favorite Guppy photo:

Now? I'm ready for a month off.

My body is letting me know in no uncertain terms that I moved a lot of rocks and dug about 20 feet of trench yesterday. I repaired most of the damage from yesterday, and have hopefully prevented the trouble from happening again - now that the rain has slowed down.

Sketch Fest today! I'm about to go work on the various bits of getting it started: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/

I've got the waitlist feature about half-working, maybe even a little more. It makes the waitlist entry just fine, but I can't figure out why it's not sending out the email when I cancel a pending sale - all the script LOOKS good. At least this way, I can send an email manually with some ease until I figure out why it's not being automatic. I don't cancel enough sales to make that an untenable task while I trouble-shoot. I also got the Sketch Fest 50 prizes up on those artist pages.

I forgot to update the mailing list in advance, again. *sighs*!

I've updated my Etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/ellenmillion

Solstice is tomorrow?! How is this possible?

House is (mostly) clean and laundry is ready to go in the dryer - I need a cuppa tea and a lot of pain pills...

My plan for yesterday was to take Guppy to the Large Animal Farm open house, then finish the sea monster scale chart and ship some orders. The first happened, but we came home to a big windstorm, and then 12 hours without power... and several fires in our neighborhood. They were doing retardant drops just a few blocks away! Crazy! We packed a bug-out box and prepped vehicles, but the fire service was seriously on top of things, and the fires were contained quickly. Power didn't come on until about 2 AM, so we had a rustic evening of it.

It was sunny while we were there, and a thunderstorm was juuuuust blowing in as we left.

Woah... I just got a Kickstarter survey response, 8 months later. Do they have a statute of limitations on these? I think I still have two of the coloring books left, but SHEESH. I can see that this would have been a serious problem for some of the projects. (And yes, I sent emails and reminders!)

Guppy's had me up since 6 AM, I'm pretty exhausted!

The beta testing orders for the Torn World anthology and ebook have been successful, with minor hiccups that were easily fixed. I am wrestling hard with those wretched, inevitable 'it sucks and no one will buy it' feelings which vacillate with the 'this is gorgeous and everyone will LOVE it' feelings in nearly equal measure. I am not going to have any fingernails left by the end of this month. I'm not sure why fiction is so much more stressful to me than non-fiction, but I feel a lot more fragile about this one...

Horrah!! EMG-Zine is just $54 from being saved for another 6 months!! 94%!!

$846 / $900 total funding by June 2011. 94% done!

Remember that you can donate your spend-only (or general) EMG credits on this; just let me know if that's what you want to do. If we go over that goal between now and July 1, everything extra goes to making site improvements; submission management is high on my list. And because you guys are awesome, we got more than 12 submissions for the jewels theme, and I will be building you better art viewing tools for June! Booyah!

Commission-Control needs ONE MORE thing (inviting artists and attaching them to images), and then I think it's ready to open. It's not as pretty as I'd like (eek, I need to contact the person who was going to help me with the CSS look!), but it's pretty functional. I can see a HUNDRED things that could use polish, but I badly, badly under-estimated how long it would take me to do, so I'll be happy to see it go live.

I am finished, green-light, complete with one of my freelance projects, and pounding forward on another. A new client I was hoping to hear from hasn't gotten back to me; I'm trying to decide if it's obnoxious to call again... Am also waiting on an okay to move forward on a very minor update.

And, I got some of the small abstracts scanned. None of these are for sale - they are very late Christmas gifts - but if you'd like an ACEO print of any of them, drop me a dollar or two to cover the cost (at my site) and I'll happily send you one! I will post the rest as I scan them!
